Yeh thanks, there actually evil hitmans 34" JTs in that pic

It cost 16000 to buy. Most probaly say thats too expensive being a petrol. But we couldnt find any one is as good condition for cheaper. Even stock Luxes were the same price so i thought it was a bonus having all the gear on it. And got used little off road, the bloke was a trout fisherman and u could tell it hadnt had a hard life

What are those sliders BTN?

Are they a brand name or are they custom built?

Thats what I'm after for BigPat. A simple but fat tube with a minimal step that sits up nice and high and is black.

They look good. ;D

There's been a few posts about making sliders on the site... Have a search through for sliders and you should find heaps of info.

I've already read it, and am getting ready to replace my steps bolted to my sills with a set once I make em!

BushTuckerNed
12-12-2005, 06:07 PM
just got a few then. can see a bit more in these

heres how the pipe that goes to the chassis is welded to the slider

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album502/DSC00011.sized.jpg

the pipe closest to the car had a U shape cut out of it to get the chassis mount as high up as possible

mounting to the chassis

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album502/DSC00012.sized.jpg

was gonna go the U bracket with the bolts at the top only, but for the 4wdriving i do, getting hung up on a rock is not gonna happen often and not a real concern, so a simple bolt top and bottom was the go

theres about 2mm between the fold in the sill and the pipe to the chassis, getting them up nice and high

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album502/DSC00014.sized.jpg

just a side on shot

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album502/DSC00015.sized.jpg

How much did the brake lines cost, and how did you go bleeding the brakes ?

the brake lines cost me 75 each, for the same length in rubber was about 40-50 bucks. theres only about half a dozen ppl who have the machines to be able to do road legal brake lines in melb apprently, so the prices were pretty similar.

had no probs bleeding the brake lines

What have you used as the step? It's obviouysly not checkerplate the common choice. It look grippy though. It looks like the holes have been punched up from underneath? Was this also made custom or does this form of plate have a name? A closer pic of the step surface would be cool.

Cheers ;)

I think the guy who made tham put "spot welds" along the step.... I think I saw that somewhere back in the thread...

yeh its just a piece of flat bar, in the long run, skate board grippy stuff was gonna get stuck on them. but i like it how it is with just teh spot welds, and its just tacked on to the pipes. the flat bar doesnt go all the way to ends, which i reckon looks pretty good

ned, Mate of mine in canberra has a 2.8L LN106 running 33x12.5" muddies...

He's got em to fit with a 2" body lift + 2" spring lift, they JUST touch his front mudflaps on full lock, but a bit of loving with a hammer would fix that. ;)

Dont forget, you cant get home made shackles to pass ADR's and all it takes is an anal RTA bloke and your up the creek....

I'll be running 33's eventually on my truck (probably 33x10.5 to reduce any issues with scrubbing and cos their slightly cheaper....

Plan to do a 2" lift + 2" body lift to make em fit... and whacking 4.88:1 diffs under it to help it pull!

Oh, didnt mention, My 2.8D might be slower than yours, but i guarentee its worth more, has more torque and ill be laughing as i drive past you at the servo :P

i just got my rear diff rebuilt becasue it wasnt installed right in the first place >:(

and ive been trying to work out why one spottie wont work. most likley the globe

I put a headlight upgraded loom in last nite and it made an improvment. my reflectors arent that great tho.

now my top spots wont work >:( , just need to tap into the new wiring looms high beam. I dont see why it wouldnt work b4 tho, becasue the original wiring loom stays in there and acts as a switch

and i puntured a simex :(, bird nested my winch cable, snapped off my radio aerial and broke the handle on the canopy :( :(

all going my way lol

well this arvo i got bored and decided to put my extended shackles in the rear.

the bolts are slighty too long and will hit my gas tank off road i reckon but one is in. i put it on the side my car leaned to :P and now it sits level. my springs are too short so they are just giving the car lift.

but atm my car is sitting out the front with one wheel on the nature strip on top of a 33" (laying down of course :P) and it looks alright

BushTuckerNed
15-09-2006, 05:56 PM
put the other shackle in tonite

it lifted the back end up a bit more

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album274/DSC00492.sized.jpg

cept my gas tank is too close and the bolts will hit it. so no off roading till i work sumthing out. either gonna try and lift the tank up higher by moving it back and mounting it on the tub, or pull the tank out and put the bolts in the other way

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album274/DSC00493.sized.jpg

well nothing much has been done lately. but a bit of an update.

my shackles no longer hit the gas tank coz i pulled the tank out and reversed the bolts.

I need longer springs tho, it may be the next item on the list. But ot still flexes ok i think

http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/gqtrav/IMGA0120.jpg

This was taken on the last trip i went on to big river, the first trip out in the hilux for a long long time

Relised that my rear locker leaks internally somewhere.

So it went back to the place that rebuilt my diff and they told me the locker was either water damaged, or bits of metal floating around in there. So 120 dollars worth or parts later..it still doesnt work. So its off to ARB to get sorted out and my front locker finally in on thrusday. Hopefully at a cheaper price becasue the parts they sold me made no effect.

well i thought ill update this a bit

got a in cab winch wired up,

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album274/IMG_0840.sized.jpg

lost the other vent, i think it looks good tho

and also put a switch on the grill

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/album274/IMG_0878.sized.jpg

Not the most ideal spot, i wanted it in the headlight surround so it less vunerable but it was to much stuffing around. this works and it makes life easier

Also getting some mechanical beadlocks this week.

Should be good:D :D

After that, its time for some custom leafs i think

well i needed a new rim. and those chrome ones i have are about 140 to 180 bucks each and no one is sure if they make them still. You can get other ones, but they may be slighty differernt and that would annoy me. Then i saw another one of my rims with a slight buckle so i thought id just get new ones

Down here, we have a lot of ruts and dirt in the bead is a regular occurance. So i thought beadlocks. Plus i can run lower pressures

Hi Scott, though I am sure you have probably already thought about this and done something about it - if your going to have a front winch switch, be sure to have a cut off for the winch in cabin to ensure some moron doesn't decide to press the button.

car audio install places have that plastic that they use for installs. vince just got me some and he helped make up the locker switch panel. Just cut it to size and glued little bits of that plastic to the inside of my vents so we had sumthing to mount the panel too

The switch on the front is only for when your spooling the cable back on tidying it up, or just to get that last bit in to the rollers or onto a hook.

Atm its a bit sloppy on the road. And it doesnt run the best on gas. It shudders a bit but which i need to sort out.

Her car drives fine on the road coz its a maller :p

Picked them up from Dave at Lindsey Tyres yesterday and so far im really happy with them.

I was told that beadlocks dont balance up all that good but these are better than my 31" ATs. When we spun the first one up it needed no weights at all. They all drive smooth as car tyres on the road.

Took them for a test last nite after the rain we had. Cockpit and blowhard at toolangi were a bit slippery at times and i slid into a few ruts pretty hard and have no dirt in the bead :D :D

The gas tank is now black. I got over the NED :p

Ive been thinking about comps. Maybe next year we will see what happens:D

Ive given my new winch controls a bit of a work out lately on a resucue mission to gembrook and 2 trips. They work great, so convienent having them there.

And the beadlocks are great too. The last trip i ran my tyres at 6 psi for a day and watching the video that T90 USSR made and a few pics, its good to see the simex moulding over rocks.

Also that bog hole at tallarook, i found glass sitting in my beadlocks. So i wont be going thru there again

Well bit of an update

I entered the Gembrook Nav run last weekend with Big Red Toy (Andrew) as my navi and his mates in another patrol as the second car. First event i have done as a driver. We placed 3rd which got me trophy and a set of Lightforce 170s.

So ill be trying to get them on the car sumwhere ready for the next Nav Night ive entered:D :D :D . With Tom as my winch bitch, we will be called Team Pisslux  , didnt really put alot of effort into it.

For this, im going to get a dual battery set up and im looking for either a rollbar for the tub, or a 4 point cage to go in the back in place of the back seats...just in case.

Should be good. Go Team Pisslux!
