Be interesting to see if this one can climb that rock you were having trouble with last weekend.
May be an idea to fit some rock sliders....

US Postal service has used a LOT of different rigs as a basis for their vans - including Jeeps...That one in the pic is not a Jeep .....NFI what it ACTUALLY IS ??? (other than extremely sad)....
Here's an Aussie DJ5 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2413301766&category=35 227) currently for sale on ebay....Not a bad price either....
As for that thing in Darren's pic http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung/wuerg/vomit-smiley-019.gif http://www.click-smilies.de/sammlung/wuerg/vomit-smiley-020.gif

Now that is pretty good travel for a road registerred Jeep.
I am pretty impressed Wooders.

The TJ's flex bloody well actually - from the Jeep Jamboree heres a copy of the top offical results measured on a 23° ramp - I was entrant #28, but because I was an organiser I was flat out & so I ran the ramp with my sway bar connected (normally it's not) and road pressures so I think 1000 was ok....These were ALL road register and relatively mildly modified rigs....
#.....Rig.....RTI

I thought it was tongue-in-cheek.....but still you'd be surprised at how many people don't realise that the Jeeps ARE pretty flexible ....
Then many people (esp in Aust) how many people don't realise that there are more mods available, off the shelf, for the Jeeps (esp TJ's) than ANY other rig on the planet.....

Hey buddy. No harm intended.
The only Jeeps I get to see have not been modded much.
We have a guy in our club with a Grand Cherokee Loredo & he has just lifted 2" & has quick release sway bars. His is the only jeep I am first hand familiar with, so I thought that yours was pretty awesome.
Yes,
last years US trip showed how much stuff really is available that isnt even advertised really.
Mick Whitehead drove his well, till he got sick of fixing and modifying it... see he went back to a GQ shorty now...

Ops sorry didn't mean to apper to be an arse - just trying to emphasize the point :-[
Thanks for the compliment - I need some better flex pics ;)

Hey Wooders,
How did you measure your RTI? We've got a 20-degree ramp at 4WD Monthly HQ, and we recently ramped a stock TJ at 581.5 (560.5 & 603 rear).

Pat,
We used Stuart Mangells 23deg ramp (I think you might be familiar with it - it was at Macq 4x4 for ages).
In your ramp tests, what tyre pressure did you have & did you disconnect the sway bars? THE first thing we do when we take a newbie owner on the trail with the SJC, we teach people to airdown & disconnect the front swaybar. The front sway bar does require a 18MM spanner & T55 torx - but only 5 minutes to unbolt & swing out of the way....this alone will have a huge effect on the amount of wheel travel available.
The rear swaybar is puny compared to the front, and we find that even with just the front swaybar disco'ed that the stock shockies are the next limiting factor......
After longer shockies (& coils) are fitted the next limiting factor is the stock control arms...followed by the front brakelines.
Once you've got articulating control arms that have better bracket clearance & longer brake lines the next limitation is the front panhard rod /bracket......but by this time you'll be flexing pretty darn well.....
Anyways Pat I would be interested to see the same rigs on the ramp as if they were hitting the trails - ie aired down & discoed....At the jambo even the dead stockers were in the approx 780-800 range (on 23deg)...
Yep, fair call Wooders on the airing down and swaybar disconnects, but we can't do that here. We're attempting to get a complete log of standard vehicles on the ramp, in standard form. The purpose of testing the newbies is to see how they come 'out of the box' so to speak.
If we were to disconnect the swaybar on the TJ, should we undo the spring clamps on the leaf sprung trucks, or drop a few leafs out of the pack? It seems your way works for you guys, and ours works for us.
Cheers,
Pat

Pat,
I have no problem with your approach for mag comparo purposes. Infact I've seen it consistently applied like that for a long time in the US mags.
I suppose the point I make with running an RTI test is that ideally it should reflect in part the vechiles offroad ability and as such should be ramped setup as it would be if you were actually on the trail....And in the case of TJ's (infact most Jeeps) that's aired down & disconnected.
