That sounds like a lot of fun. You will have to give us a detailed trip so anyone who wants to trek out that way will know where to go and what to see.

Who's got the Mungarannie pub now?
And in Eulo were the lizard pens still on the main road?
Cant wait for pics!
Howd Big Red go?

I don't know who has the Mungerannie roadhouse but he's probably in his late 40's with a very long white beard, as for the lizard pens in Eulo I didn't see them but the kids loved the rubber goanna's at the door to the store!!!!!!!!!!!

AW fella's , ya got me going again :( :( :(
Luv that country out there Nissannut ;D ;D ;D
And you must have had a beer or twelve at the Mungerannie ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
When you say the"Old Strezelecki" track, what part do you mean?? Most people think of it as the part from Merty Merty to the main track east of Moomba.
The only real "Old Strezelecki Track" left is from the Strezelecki Crossing along the Strezelecki Creek to Merty Merty. It is no longer shown on most maps. The first vehicle through after the wet makes the new track. We camped just off the track between the dunes some years back. Full moon and an experience you would never forget.
We were out at Innamincka two years back when Brisbane beat up the Essendon Bombers in the Grand Final ;D. Spent a great arvo in the pub watching the game. Best place to be. It was 40 in the waterbag and blowing a bad northerly wind. Anyhow when we left we headed for Camerons and Tib but there had been about 1/2 an inch of rain the night before and the old track (top part to Merty) was rather wet the closer we got to Merty. Ended up getting stuck. Not bogged but just spinning on the clay surface. Had to get snatched out by a Scout Troop. ::)
But like I said, great country. I luv it. :D

In regards to the "Old Strzelecki" track the map we used is the Great Desert tracks south east sheet from Hema maps.
The Old Strzelecki runs from camerons cnr through "Merty Merty" and up to Innaminka crossing the Strzelecki track nearthe delta satellite gas station

G'day Andy
The track you describe is the old Strzelecki Track from Merty north. South of Merty there is 42k of real original track.
Coming from Lyndhurst just past the Strzelecki Crossing on your right hand side there is a turnoff. Probably hard to find these days but it runs up the left hand side of the creek. About 28k along this track you should come to a gate, or at least these days, the remains thereof. The track comes out beside Merty Merty.
If your ever out that way again, you've gotta try and find it. It's not a hard drive but you need to be careful of erosion and washouts. God's own country. Find a good spot and camp overnight. Either full moon or the dark of the moon. Unbelievable!!!

G'day bbushy :D
Yeh what do ya reckon mate. Small world isn't.
I do remember that the compound out front of the pub was chockers. I was drinking that funny Coopers Pale Ale ;D Got used to it real quick like. 8)
We were out there on our own and headed down the top half of the old track just after the rain. Had a ball ;D Had to get snatched out of the mud by a scout troop. They were well prepared. Trouble is it's a bit hard to snatch yourself out. ::)
Anyway had a great time. Got to say that Coopers Creek area would be one of my favourite places.
Never know, we might be in the same place again one day.

Do you have somewhere to host the pics (ie, can you put them on a web site somewhere)?
Absolutely magic country, eh? If you're passing Tibooburra, try the camping at Depot Glen. Bob Hammond still has the Mungerannie Pub, always a good spot to camp, except when it's chocker. The Innnamincka Pub has gone downhill since Dillon left and the new owners took over. The way we were treated there on the last couple of visits, they wouldn't last 2 days if there was some competition. Sort of like it was a priviledge for us to be allowed in there. As for Birdsville, everyone should try to see the place once before they die. there is so much to see and experience. We're hoping to do the Birdsville track, Innamincka Track trip again this winter. This time hoping to do the Walkers Crossing, Cordillo Downs is fantastic, but, done that.
Happy trails, Mike.

Yeah Mike couldnt agree dillon really was the place and its shockin now. I was always gonna have my 21st there and all the guys were organising it for me and stuff but one of our friends got in first and is having his 40th there in feb. but without dillon being there its gonna be a pretty tough nite with the newbies! >:(
i spose greg is gone as well??
The three most obvious things that left with Dillon were, Greg, the Dolphin disco and friendly service. They surely can't last log...........please?
Happy trails, Mike.

Hi Nissannut.
Sounds like a cracker of a trip.
I've just started planning a 10 day trip from Brisbane out to South Western Qld, similar to what you've done. I need to allow for the attention span and entertainment of two billy lids (aged 5 & 3), what was your average daily driving hours during the trip.
My initial goal is to get to Birdsville and then do Big Red. But I am also interested in getting to Cameron's Corner. How long (in km and hours) is the drive from Birdsville to the Corner?
Without having been out there before, or knowing the types of roads or track conditions, I don't want to push the driving distances too far, and having a grumpy family in tow.

I would like to do a trek like this over the next few months of winter/spring ;)...would you recommend doing it in 10 days or did you feel a little rushed :-\? How many km's did you do in total?
