Ok well there is now a new project happening in my shed ;D :-\. Not mine it is my mate mats.
This one is a series2 landrover swb. Why I dont know but we were bored and couldnt help ourselves.
Basically we are going to try and get it roadlegal for under a grand. It is a good start as it is all there and to our suprise even runs really well.
The clutch and brakes dont work but that is only the hydraulics so a couple of master cylinder rebuild kits and new slave cylinders and all should be sweet. ;) We arnt gonna worry about the body work or any mods at this stage as we arnt sure if we will keep it and it will be worth more standard if we go to sell it.
First thing to go was the roof then all the rat deposits :P

This is how it looked when we picked it up minus the roof.

After spending one day on it we have the rear diff undone thanks to the angle grinder on the ubolts as they were seized. All the lights and dash removed ready to fix up a bit of wiring. We got given a new set of springs for the rear so that will save a bit as the old ones are a bit rusty.

If anyone has a set of front springs or tyres off splitrims that are roadlegal and they would like to donate then all donations greatly appreciated. :P :P ;)

Awesome 8)
gotta have something to keep you occupied, ortherwise you'd go insane ;D well i would

i have one old landy 16" rim that i don't want, it has a badly worn mud terrain, the rim has about 6 coats of paint that are flaking too.

Not too worried about rims but thanx anyway. We have the 5 original rims just after some cheap tyres for them. Victoria is a bit far to travel too.
I have plenty to do just most of them need my money such as my truck and also have an XP coupe in the shed awaiting work.

7.50's are probably a bit big, (although a lot of them get fitted).

What size is on it now?

Thats the OE size.........very thin on the ground these days........smart size would be 205R16s as almost every base model 1 tonne 4by uses them. I would talk to your local B/Stone, G/Year & Beaurepaires branches & tell them you want their legal take offs. These 3 will do most of the Gov business.

Well it is making rather fast progress atm. Have got all the wheelbearings repacked and back together, the brake parts are on order, rear springs replaced with a new secondhand set that came with the car which sit it at quite a good height. Had a mongrel of a time getting the old springs out then trying to get the old bushes out which had the steel casing on them and ofcourse rusted in. The oxy has had a fair workout loosening things that were rusted together as this used to be a coastal car which was used to put the boat in and out of the water so rust on most things but luckily only surface rust on the chassis. Fuel tank is out as it was leaking and got everything transfered to the other tank that appears much better that came with it. Handbrake all pulled apart andloosened up ready to go back in in the morning. Hopefully we will get the front springs out tomorrow and take them to the springworks and see what they can do with them, and get the brakes back together. Might even try and get some pics in daylight ::) :P

is it my imagination or do landies make up in rust underneath what they miss out on top?

Yeh although it isnt too bad considering it was used to tow a boat in and out of the ocean for a few years. Only 1 little hole in the chassis that will be easy to fix, the rest is all in the bolt ons.

Not much been done lately :-[
Been working a few too many hours (I have done 82hrs in the last week) as well as getting a bit of firewood for a few friends ;) and had a few more dramas with my truck.
Got all the wiring sorted except the charge circuit, basically had to replace all the wires as what wasnt coroded was eaten by rats.
Got it running well and got the clutch etc working. Still havnt got the brakes done yet had to wait for a few parts annd still up on stands as we havnt done the front springs yet.
Will do some more updates when we get time to do somemore. Got 5 days off coming up in 2 weeks will see what I can do then if my truck starts behaving :-\ :-\ :P

Well we have made soe good progress in the last 2 days. Got all the wiring sorted which was great fun, most of the wires needed replacing. Went to supercheap to get some stuff for the wiring and noticed that shocks were 20% off soo after some searching through the gabriel catalog as they had no landy shocks in stock (funny that) we found 4 shocks that we thought would do the job perfectly. Took them home and with only some minor reaming of the rubber bushes they are perfect. The best part is they are a whole $28 each, gotta be happy with that.
Most of the brakes are back together just sorting out some minor hydraulic probs (master cylinder wont pump).
We even got to drive it around the back yard just couldnt go too fast due to previously mentioned lack of brakes.
Might take some pics of the rear suspension travel tomorrow which I reckon is quite impressive, just gotta get some front springs now and all will be good.
