Hey just been checking on new tyres for my Hilux *MY* ;D.. anyways.. the shops tell me that BFG has stopped making the 245/75/R16's in AT format.. he then told me that Good Year Wrangler ATR is much stronger than BFG's.. they are a little bit dearer to BFG's as well..

Does anyone in this forum use Good Years, or recommend them over BFG's?

thanx in advance.

Mick.

I have a set of goodyear MTRs and I think there brilliant but as for being better than BFGs I can't comment i've never used them. You should have a look at the cooper STs they are a brilliant AT tyre. I have a set of these also that I use for long distance travel, day to day travel and mild off road. I think they would me a similar price to the BFGs. Hope this helps.

the bfg a/t is a good tyre ive tried a few but always go back the mtr is a good tyre but a little noisy on a lux if you want an a/t id go either the bfg or the cooper st on a trip with the guys from extreme only two vehicles got through a bog hole unaided a patrol with centipedes and a hilux with st other tyres included claws (the extreme Patrol) mtrs and bfg muds and cooper stt

I've got 7.50R16 Wrangler ATR on my Land Rover County - but I bought them off eBay for $350 for 4 about 2 months ago (almost new). They haven't been off road yet so I can't offer any comparison.

I have Cooper ST 245/75R16 on my Range Rover.

The Wranglers are much quieter than the ST.

I have used the goodyear AT's on my LC. I now use the cooper ST's becaues they're that little bit more aggressive without being any more noisey ime.

Haveing said that, i found the AT's to be very good. Others in the land rover club i'm a member of tend to use pirelli and bfg's. However, they did ask about the Goodyear tyres because when watching me off road they thought the goodyear side walls flexed less than their bfg's and pirellis and were duly impressed. truthfully i don't know what advantage less flex is off road but i guess it must count for something otherwise they wouldn've have raised it as a subject.

Is it just one place you've been to?

I did the rounds a few months ago looking for an aggressive AT for the Hilux. It's funny how obvious some of the dealers are in their preference for certain brands. Some even went out of their way to dump loads of horse s... on the oppostion, or to a tyre that they don't normally stock.

Anyway, ended up with Mickey Tompson FC2's in a 31*10.5*15 at around $215 each. Pretty happy with them. Just very slippery on wet tar. Can't offer a comparison as they are the first AT I've had.

Shop around.

Well, I'll be! That's the same thing that happens to us Landie owners from Nissan/Yota owners!

Yair. Nissan/Yota owners don't know any better. They are from the shallow end of the gene pool.

::) ooiii stop hijacking my thread yo!!

ya know wot.. Toyo wins hands down.. end of story no more wars!!! ;D

It pays to ring around for tyres for sure... the cheapest i can get for 5 sunraysia rims and 5 245/70/16 tyres are $1500.. and this includes wheel balance, alignment etc.

Bob Jane quoted me $1600 and then said we gotta get the tyres from somewhere and have to charge you extra $6 for freight.. woteva!!

pays to look around and be patient with ppl.. :)
