Ok the back ground:
Purchased in March 2005 a 1981 Jeep J20 with plans to turn it into a tow rog for the Heep.
Spent easter picking it up from Brisbane and driving back...and I mean it took all weekend - try 6hours from brisbane airport to the Gold coast for starters :-X
Anyhow here's a pic of what it looked like before we bought it:

Current pic coming soon.
Also a list of of MUST fix for the blue slip coming up soon :-X

That picture is VERY deceiving regarding the vehicles condition.
Now don't get me wrong I was expecting loads of work when I bought it so I'm cool with that....
The plans are to restore, repower, and maybe even bling it up a bit ;)
Current Specifications are:
1981 Jeep J20
258 cid (4.2) I6 running on dual fuel.
T18 transmission with a stump pulling 6.3:1 first gear
NP208 danged near bullet proof transfer case.
Dana44 front axle (this is a big bigger version than what TJ's have in the rear)
Dana60 Rear axle - Both diffs are big 8 studs.
Basically this is classified as a 2tonner....
I've driven a J10 mate - same engine I think? Jeez they suck the juice eh!

at least it will have some size to it for a tow rig,
Why did it take 6 hours from Brissy to the Gold Coast, did it break down or something

6hours - lets just say 40km/h DOWN hill was our terminal velocity - and most hills we crested at 5km/h or less.........

come on spill the beans, why could you only go 40 flat out down hills, did it have a bad death wobble or was it really shagged when you got it. ;D

LPG system had loose vaccum hoses....and simply refused to run on petrol we think the diaphams had all dried out (or something like that).....
Even now it's VERY gutless and allong the golburne expressway the other week we were regularly back to 60km/h even with the boot on the floor :(

To anyone else planning an engine swap - here's a tip - wash the bloody thing first :-X
Ours is flithy - and everything a I tuched gave me a nice shower of greasy mud&crud......
Tonight was spent undoing all the motor mounts, transmission bolts etc.....
Just can't get the danged exhaust flange bolts undone - so they'll have a date with the grinder tomorrow night :-*
