Well heres my car.... let's git one thing straight... It HATES me!!!

I bought it cause I wanted to keep my licence... conned my uncle into selling it for 18g.. (that was in 2001)

It stayed std for about 2 months

This was prolly the second stage it went thru..

Had 4-5" springs
Ranchos
Big Exhaust
35 Maxxis mudzillas

Well We have started the flip arm...

Not goin bad so far..

Ripped the diff out on thrus nite.....

First step... cut all the mounts off the diff..

Put the arms back in the car.. upside down with the new plates on it:
http://groups.msn.com/_Secure/0RgADA7gT1pXhLGiCuEF6vuhF8jzfttEHJHHeQ5f8jpPyCq2fT gyc4aM!SPbcPn3rf1p5FTdNYDIZJ5Kvfetre4HcGOw7JHtEpEh ru3z1a2w/DSC00369.JPG?dc=4675526155909068028

Next slide the diff bac under the car.. put the springs back on .. git the weight f the car bac on the diff and put the wheels on so its sitting where it would if i was dirvin ..

Check te castor with a special little level thingy so that i have 4 Deg castor.. tack the plates in that postion..

Next we ripped it all out and cleaned and welded it up...

I have not seen that done before but thought about doing it many years ago. I used to run a coil rear instead of leaf springs on a Cherokee using Range Rover arms and thought about it then back in 96. Had you seen others do it and why you went for it too? Always thought one of those arms upside down would make a good anti-tramp bar for soft leaf springs.

I got the idea off the boys on outer limits (thanks Boys ;D)

U can buy the plates to do the flip....

Doin it because in the process u can get the castor correct.. it climbs shite heaps better becasue the arms are a lot flatter..
Will corner stop and steer better on road and u git mre ground clearance ;D

would most people do this to gain clearance even if they only have a smallish lift or is it mainly for big lifts?

Mainly for big lifts I Would say..

It makes the arms sit flatter so they climb sttuff easier and its the perfect opportunity to corecct the castor angle and make it drive heaps better on road too...

The other idea of it was so that i could fit the high steer arm which will help me from destroying the steering boxes

as the diff comes up under compression, the arms come down towards the diff- there going to be enough clearance for the arm to cycle without fouling the diff?

Well Its finally finished....

Had to make a small mod to fit the highsteer arm on but other than that it all went together reasonably well...

The High Steer arm John at Jmac built 4 me.... Looks sexula eh ;D

As u can see the highsteer arm makes the steering arm and the panhard rod sit nice and parallel now

You shouldn't need it anymore, you should have somewhere near the proper caster angle so it should RTC without the help of the dampener, the RTC dampeners do affect steering a fair bit, I'd at least try it.

It looks good! in that last picture is the coil bound before the diff hits the bumpstop? because that would limit up travel.
In this picture there is still some light between the coils, this 80 has the same setup as yours, the tyres never left the ground even when he got to the top of that rock, this setup will flex very well.

Well it didnt take me long but i have busted the front end already.. and b4 everyone jumps to conclusions it wasnt anything we did that broke.. it was the factory panhard rod mount that broke.. tore it clean off the chassis..
Sorry 4got to get pics b4 we cut it right to pieces..

This is the part that should be on the chassis:

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/crankycruiser/mount.sized.jpg

The arrow indicates where the chassis should be attached..
http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/crankycruiser/mount1.sized.jpg

This is the hole that it left in the chassis under the mount... obvously we have trimmed it up a bit ;D
http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/crankycruiser/chassis.sized.jpg

This is the plate that we cut out of a triton chassis to fit in the hole and strengthen it up..

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/crankycruiser/chassi1.sized.jpg

After looking at it after we got it apart u could c that it had been cracked for quiet some time underneith the actual mount...

Very nice job on that chassis repair. The additional rod across from the other chassis rail should take all the flex out of it and stop it from breaking out again.

Take heart in knowing that your truck is so much better than everyonelse's. They still have to find the weak spots and repair the ones that you have found. At least once it breaks, it has been made stronger so it don't break again ;D

Well decided to built a trailer to take bush and on my little trip...

This traile4 was rescued from the Brisbane tip.. My uncle found it and fixed it up and towed it bac to Tassie where he used it till the wheels literely fell off it..

I ended up scoring it as he was goin to throw it on the tip again...

I decided if i was goin to use it then i had to be able to hook straight up to my cruiser without needing a drop tow bar...

So i managed to pick up a set of 4wd trailer hubs rated at 2 tonne for the pricely sum of 50bucks...

I bought new springs for it and got a lump of steel (65x65) for the axel.. trust me this is one thing i shouldnt be able to break...

Any way this is wat it now looks like..

this is the tiny ::) axel i have put in it:

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/crankycruiser/tuff_trailer_001.sized.jpg

Made it big enuf so i could run my 36's on it.. I will run 35's on it when i take it bush...

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/crankycruiser/DSC00427.sized.jpg

Also put a few bash guards on it to protect when im dragging it about ;D

http://www.4wdlinks.com.au/albums/crankycruiser/DSC00433.sized.jpg

The bash guards also double as a jerrycan holder:

If you get to the ACT give me a holler and I'll show you around ;)
