Hello Camper Trailer Tourers,

When I got back to my desk at Camper Trailer Touring HQ this morning, I found six Roof Top Bags from Southern Cross Canvas and we need to do something with them. These bags use the best Australian materiels and have been desinged to handle anything Australia can throw at them. After at least one whole minute of deliberation with Editor Colin we have decided to give them to our readers!

http://i45.tinypic.com/255ql45.jpg

This is all you have to do. Send us an email with a couple of pictures of you and your camper trailer being used for what you bought it for. Tell us all about it, what model it is, what modifications (if any) you have made to it, what you like about it and most importantly where you have taken it.

The six best responses will get a 3'x4' Roof Top Bag sent directly to you, from us, thanks to the team at Southern Cross Canvas.

Pictures should be around about 1mb in size and emailed to batty@4wdaction.com.au

As an added bonus, the first person to respond by email will get a free six month subscription to Camper Trailer Touring magazine!

The first winner will be anounced in issue 4 of Camper Trailer Touring and subsequent issues following until we run out of bags.

For more information on the gear and trailers by Southern Cross Canvas check out Southern Cross Canvas Products - (http://www.southerncrosscanvas.com.au)

The make is Prototype a la Zako Styles!

Really nice comp Brendan with a fantastic prize.

Maybe you could convince the boys at Southern Cross Campers to send ya'll 6 of their best touring tents and then we can send in photos of ourselves for 'Camping with your 4wd' lol, same requirements as above!!!

Travis.

seems a bit pointless that anyone with a camper trailer more than likely doesnt have a, or need a roofrack yet the rest of us that camp in a tent and use there roofrack for carrying said would really find this usefull as a prize......but alas cant enter. I got heaps photos of camping with me tent, and car packed up with roof loaded with tent that could use a rooftop bag.

I have a camper and a roof rack fitted to the GU, I have an awning and shovel holder fitted to the rack. The rack comes in very handy like I'm sure your aware, Eg, when we do this to it!!

I have towed my camper alot of places and there are many times I dont take it like this years outback trip. So the rack is worth every cent when room is at premium. For carrying a 2nd spare and my spacecase. I would use it a few times a week picking up and doing various things like carrying bikes ect!!

I have a trailer and am fitting a roof rack for those trips when I don't want to or cannot take the trailer!!:thumb: So a bag would be useful .......

Hello Everyone

I hope you all managed to spend at least a couple of days under some canvas over the holiday break, and if you were lucky enough, even manage to beat some of the crowds.

If you have any great camping pictures with your camper trailer from the Christmas Break, be sure to send them in. The pictures we have got so far have been great, so thanks to everyone who has emailed me so far. I still have a few roof top bags left though, so start looking through those holiday snaps and send them to me at batty@4wdaction.com.au

SteveandViv, I didnt recieve an email from you, so if you get a chance could you please try resending it.

Cheers!

I know its a month or so old now but I'll give it a crack and post the story here!

Wife and I went from a double swag to camper after she put her foot down early one morning when a snake went between us and the peg.

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i73/christofurry/DSC00275Medium.jpg

So I was on a hunt for a camper. We came across this little gem, it looked a little sad, but is was sound and was just what I was after.

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i73/christofurry/DSC01071Medium.jpg

http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i73/christofurry/DSC01074Medium.jpg

After a bit of thought I did the following

Full re-spray
New 7 leaf Alko outback springs with greasable shackles
New 50mm Square axle with Landcruiser studs and 10 inch electric brakes using a 2.5tn bearings
New kitchen and plumbing (inc outside tap)
Re located the spare
Full rewire with LED (inc reversing lights)
12 volt system inc 100AH batt, 2x internal LED's, 1x under body in tub LED, 600w inverter, various 12volt cig plugs for fridge etc and 240 charging
Lift up tent base
Boat loader
New Cover

Im pretty sure thats all I did...

Very nice christofurry. Don't forget to email them to Batty as Grimbo has mentioned.

We are giving one away per issue, so technically you have a one in six chance to win each issue. The first winner has been chosen and you will see it in Issue 4 (the first of the issues that is monthly).

Hope everyone had a chance to get out over Christmas. Happy New Year to all.

When I was at Inskip mid way through last year, I must have seen four or five people get recovered by this one 40 Series in the space of about an hour. All of them had responsibly deflated their tyres to a sensible 30psi and couldnt understand why they where getting stuck.

Thanks for the email christofurry, I got it all when I came in this afternoon.

A sensible 30 psi is for on road, a sensible offroad pressure should be at most 18 psi for sand and for that sort of soft stuff even lower

This was early Saturday morning of a long weekend, the wife and I were sitting up at inskip in awe of the mad rush to get over to the barge. I saw this guy hit the sand and stop dead. I kept an eye on him for about 10 minutes to see if he was in a group or if anyone had stopped to help. Fair enough no one bothered to give him a hand, so Landcruiser to the rescue... I work along the pricipal that if I didnt help him out, that could be me next time.

I went up and said gday and had a bit of a chat. His problems started when
1. I found out it was his inlaws Patrol (3.0lt Automatic) and he had no real idea
2. It wasnt in 4wd
3. He was in D and not L
4. He had let 10psi out of the rear tires. But they still had 30 in them!
5. The 22ft plate boat he was towing weighed a heap!!

We let his tires down to 10psi (inc the tandam trailer) and shoveled for about half an hour then with the foot to the floor, turbo screaming and soot belching out we scull dragged him to the barge.

By the time we got him to the barge we had a few spectators cheering us on.

Im not sure how he went on the other side, but it was a good laugh.

We stayed around for another 15 minutes or so but had to leave because there were bogged vehicles everywhere!!!

Cheers
Chris

a couple of weeks ago, when we left that barge on the way home,

first a honda gets stuck trying to cross the sand, down to its belly, so I helped them get onto the track out,, at the same time a new zuk goes belly up in the sand, with 5 people in it, loaded to the max, on full tyres, dragged them to the barge..

all at the same place as mentioned in the above post..

geez,, if you sat there and charged $40 per recovery, you'd be rich after a week LOL :)

Mate, can I ask the size of the gas strut on the boat rack.I have built near the exact thing for our camper but havent got round to putting gas struts on.Id say your rack would be about the exact weight of our.Would you be able to give stroke length, open and closed length and NM rating.
Very much appreciated.

Looks the goods motomech! I actually brought that one from trackabout! Im pretty sure the strongest you can buy them is 1000 or 1200nm and they get them re gassed to 1300-1400nm. I cant open it up at the moment cause the trailer is hard up against the fence. Give the guys at Trackabout a call and Im sure they will help.
