Hi all,
Just returned today from an action packed weekend on the tracks around Jamieson with Cracka & Spoonz.
We meet in Mansfield yesterday morning & left town just after 9am bound for Jamieson.
First track of the day was Bronsann's tk with some very steep rutting section, would have been a very different track had it been wet.
At the end of Brosann's tk we headed for the very steep section of Lyrebird track. Its a very daunting site when your standing at the bottom of Lyrebird & looking straight up to the top. After reaching to top of Lyrebird track we then headed down the very steep, rocky, rutty track of Mitchells track. This is a very fun track in sections.
After reaching the bottom & back on the main road about 1pm,we then headed for the town of Jamieson & the CourtYard Hotel for a couple of cold beers. After a look around town we then headed out on the Woods Point Rd for our camp spot at Skipworth Reserve on the Goulburn River.
Camp was set up, fire wood collected & out came to cold ones.It was a great night for camping out with no wind & clear star lite sky's.
After dinner & few more cold beers, the stories from Spoonz began on what army blokes get upto when they are bored, now to find out what im on about you will need to go on a camp trip to find out.Far to many funny stories to mention.
Day 2 after packing up camp we headed back toward Jamieson & to find some more tracks,& tracks we did. We started on Sappers Tk & after a couple of ks we turned off to the left on some unnamed track & what a track it was, with a couple of awesome hill climbs & one very deep creek crossing. We sent the BIG GQ across 1st to test the depth & what a mistake that was, sending a truck in 1st with 35's was not a good idea, all he did was make it another foot deeper,so we decided to bail out of that crossing & head back to town for some more tracks.
So after having so much fun on Mitchell's track yesterday,we decided to go back for more, but this time we went up it.Now this is one hell of a challanging track in this direction. The video action is coming on this track.
Then at the top we turned down Stony's Tk to head for the main Rd & air back up then head for home.
Stay tuned the photo's & video action from the weekend is coming.
Thanks to Scott & Adam for a top weekend, look forward to hitting the tracks again in the future..
Cheers Tim :thumb:

Yep, its closer out of Mitta Mitta. Well worth the effort to get down there, beautiful campsite and it has so many different tracks coming off it i had 2 gps units running just to get back to the main road only cause i had a less than favourable map downloaded off the web. Quite spooky down there on some of the tracks too, very much makes me think that it would be proper Yowie country!!

Good pics there and good to catch up with you all in Jamieson on Saturday
Hey guys,
did u do school hill tk, just a few hundred meters from the Jamieson pub? The tk actually leads u onto Mitchells tk. Its a hell of a tk, but the reason I ask is that a private land holder was threatening to put a gate across it as he claimed the tk was on his land:(.
Looked like a great trip.
Cheers Dean.

hi Tim,
Did you manage to get any pic's of the Lux waving Hi?
Looks like you all had a great time:), thanks for sharing it ,great pics.

Man. I just came back from a boys trip camping on the river past the Kevington pub. We went out for the day on saturday and did the treck you blokes did. It is very steep. I mean steep.
I went in my Prado, which has a front locker and other gear and my brother had a Disco with traction control.
It was freaky, the map is tricky to follow to make sure you take the right path, but we certainly managed to find the right path and take some real step climbs and decents. WOW.
Once you start the climb your really committed and there's no going back. The car did real well and with the locker on there was no issues about not making it, but with any traction aid such as a locker or traction control, your not going to make it up safely. I was driving one section of normal terrian thinking it wasn't going to be that bad and had the locker off, it track started to get step and stepper and the car ran out of steam and stopped. I wasn't going anywhere. I turned the locker on and drove straight out of it. Got to love the locker.
That close up in one of your pictures with the rutted and angled corner is tricky one, going up the hill, trying to navigate the best path and then you see that, yep that's a tricky one.
Thank you for pointing out that track, it was a ripper.

No worries mate,im thinking the steep track with no return is the Lyerbird Tk,its one steep mother of a track hey.
Mitchells is the other one you mentioned with the dog leg in it half way up.
Sounds like you had a top day out as we did also.
Do you have any pic's from the day.
Cheers Tim :thumb:
Will 31,s & open diffs make it up lyrebird? Im not familiar with that tk but have done Mitchells & school hill b4, then again the last car was double locked, this one isnt.
Headed up that way this W/end:drink:, should be interesting to see how the weather pans out.
Cheers Dean.

Hi Dean,
Mate thats something that you will need to decide on the day.It comes down to a lot of other things than just 31's & open diff's..Driver experience, vehicle set, what recovery gear you have, weather. If the track is wet i wouldnt touch it.
So go have a look & see when you there.
Cheers Tim :thumb:
Thanx Tim, will have a look.
Cheers Dean.
I didn't want to annoy my brother and distract him by taking photos. These are serious hills and there's little room for error as seen in one of the videos on this Thread. You blokes had already taken photos anyway I thought.
We both had traction aids, front locker and he had traction control. I did try one section without it on and got stuck. I wouldn't feel that comfortable going up there without a locker or traction control it just avoids you getting into trouble in the first place.
We passed a few guys of dirt bikes and they said a few had come off going up and thought they were pretty "Narly" and they were fairly serious riders.
Thanx for the heads up guys.
I meant to do these tracks 3 W/ends ago but ended up in a different area.
Anyhow I did them last W/wend after I fitted lockers.
I have done them b4 but didnt know the name of Lyrebird as last time I was there it did,nt have a sign.
Now all I have to do is improve the departure angle, as I gave it a good wack departing the creek b4 heading up Lyrebird.
Luckily at Mansfield a guy in a patrol pointed out to me that my back spring had half worked its way out. This was proly caused by me messing around with the adjustable shocks & having them on a too soft setting.
Never had adjustable shock b4, so you cant help but mess around with them can you?. Anyhow, borrowing a trolley jack from the servo & playing around with a hammer& tent peg I managed to prize it back in, no harm done.
Sorry no pics as I was flying solo, & that makes it a little hard;).
Cheers Dean.
ps. can springs be wired on? Id hate to imagine what would have happened if it totally broke loose:o.
