Hello friends!! Well, myself and a few mates just got back from a 4 day trip down to Sandy cape (West coast, Tasmania). Woah. what a trip.. gotta love that place!! We got to smithton around 8am, and filled up all the jerrys etc..

We then finally got to the start of the track..

We were all very happy.. hehe

Then we hit sandy cape beach, was very soft for the first part!! That soft, we came across this poor old shorty cruiser

on the way to the cape we came across the accident site where that young fella was killed. Gave us a awful feeling.. and then no more than 4 hours later, we had a near miss while winching. I'll post a new topic about that, cause it was something that happened so easy.. but could have easily been fatal. Anyway, We got to camp.. the camp we have stayed in before was totally under water
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42/getitupthere/PA082819.jpg
as we were going to the light house, we had to go through this nasty hole.. it looked so shallow, this is me down to the diffs
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42/getitupthere/PA082822.jpg
And this is James.. after his effort we caught winches on fire, he did a fair bit of damage to his bus, we broke winch ropes etc, was around a 3 or 4 hour recovery!! Good job matey!!!

My rear door handle broke, so to be able to get into my drawers, i had to dodjy this up
http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42/getitupthere/PA092864.jpg
Then we went to the pieman and back.. was around a 12 hour return trip

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42/getitupthere/PA102953.jpg
We then nearly had another fire.. and what a spot for it to happen!! The altenator over charged.. bit of bush mechanics, and we all got back to camp though ;)

http://i293.photobucket.com/albums/mm42/getitupthere/PA102883.jpg
I then tackled a real steep little climb.. i've got up there before, but i buggered up this time, and the zook was doing wheelstands half way up. Thanks for keeping it on all 4 wheels James!! Almost went over backwards

Wow! just awesome pics mate:thumb:, makes me want to go to Tassie, even more, as if I didn't want to go badly enough allready:crazy: nice to see a hardcore 4wding trip, not just a little dirt track, good stuff:)

hey mate don't worry, there are always prob of one sort or another when 4wding, it comes with the sport:D

And where you are stuck in the river crossing, was it like a thickshake? as it did not look like your zook would stop in that!;)

Why do you have to take jerrys? is that the only fuel stop in that part of tassie?

Anyway great pics mate, love the report too!!!

mate u can get from one end of tassie to the other 3 quats of a tank lol but u no its always better to be prepared

hey get it up there do u mind if i asked how much u payed for ur 1.6l vit motor as im intrested in doing the conversion as my 1.3 is getting very tired (cracked 300 000 ) and its time to upgrade so would u say its a good idea instead ofa 1.3 rebuild

Thanks fellas.. its an awesome spot!! If any of ya's ever feel like a holiday.. feel free to come along on one of our next trips to the west coast!! As for the fuel, we fill up (approx 100Lt in jerries) at Smithton.. which is the last fuel point. We then drive about 2 hours on road.. to the start of the track. From there its about 1.5/2 hours to get to camp. From there, to do the pieman track (which is in some of the pics) is about 12 hours return from camp. To get back to smithton, you can also go over mount balfour.. another hard core track, which uses more fuel again!! In total, i used 4 of the 5 jerries for the trip :thumb:
I paid around $900 for the 1.6 mate, which was the comp, lume, exhaust, air flow sensors etc. I did a "how to do it" tech write up for the conversion.. its in Auszookers. Heaps of info there champ :)

Hi get it up there
Great pics mate, wish I was there now.
Should be coming over in Feb 2010, but will probably have hire car, not my cruiser so hopefully normal 4x4 will get me to those spots in your pics.
Will be over for 3 weeks so should be able to squeeze a trip in some where.
Keep up the good work hope to be there next year.
