So 2 threads have gone.....
Now that just leaves me wondering where this thread is going ;) :-*

Why have the threads been removed?
wooders
04-05-2003, 07:26 AM
Probably because the content of the threads wasn't really condusive to a nice positive environment.
Remember at the end of the day the forums are supposed to be FUN 8) ;D....And nothing will scare members away faster than a heap of bitch & moaning threads.....
baby_troupe
05-05-2003, 10:41 AM
The negative content did not really start until one of the moderators started on someone's "Checkbook Nissan".
Until then I did not see any problem with the thread "missed the boat" & would have probably just dropped off the bottom by now if the comment was not made by the moderators.
wooders
05-05-2003, 12:52 PM
Maybe, but even from the start, the "Missed the boat" thread was an open critasism of the amount of time it's taken for this site to be created......hardly possitive :-X
baby_troupe
05-05-2003, 12:56 PM
It was a bit negative.
You would have thought though, that the reponse would have had more tact though so as to avoid provoking an argument.
wooders
05-05-2003, 01:36 PM
Probably - but I guess that's the decision that's been made - So I can live with it.....
baby_troupe
05-05-2003, 02:13 PM
Just like Cricket eh.....
We may not agree with the umpires decision, but we do have to accept it.
All positive on a forum would make it look like a letters to editor column in a mag........ ::)
A bit of critisism here and there wont do any harm, and the mods doing a bit too all adds to the atmosphere, surely we arent all thin skinned enough that Pats little dig was considered offensive....
And I guess if you dont like it, post it to feedback, contact the mods, or find another place to hang out........
wooders
05-05-2003, 06:24 PM
I'm not offended - but those you you that know me probably realise I'm fairly thick headed skinned ;D
Now was that gonna be THIN SKINNED...... or THICK SKINNED Wooders????? :P

The removal of threads without any explanation makes a mockery of the notion that this is a FORUM.
Surely a forum should accommodate all views as long as they are presented in the spirit of discussion.
Poor form as far as I am concerned.
It appears image is going to take precedence over discussion here.
well none were more annoyed initially than I, as I had asked Overlander mag to apologise to me that whole day, and 10 min before the thread was taken down, that was the last post.........my apology.
But its not the end of the world, and if its not liked, people will vote with thier feet, you can keep some of the people happy some of the time but you cant keep all of the..........

Kelly,
But at the end of the day you must aoppreciate that the forum is a reflection & presentation of a business.
And at the end of the day 4wdMonthly IS a business. There are plenty of anarchy forums out there, this is a 4x4 forum not a bitch about XYZ forum.....So really I have no problems whatsoevere with the decision......
Plus we're talking just 2 threads.......I would hardly describe the moderation here so far as heavy-handed...infact it's been very laidback.....

Wooders,
Altering (by removal) the written record without explanation doesn't reflect well on their business as far as I am concerned.
It's like fiddling the books or changing the minutes of a meeting. The very least they should do is offer an explanation.
Unless I'm given a good reason I expect what I post to stay.

Would that include if it was derogatory to the forum or the business behind the forum.
I had some posts in there too mate & I understand that the thread was not in the best interest of the forum, so I accept that. I do not necessarily agree, but I do accept it.
The judges decision is his & that is the way it is.

Well a meeting ussually entails people who are known as themselves debating topics properly, not some internet forum where people have a identity seperate and can try and post what they wish.
Posts like yours need a better reason to stay, than to go, dont put the horse before the cart here, because you cant blame them for removing something which didnt deserve to be.......

Kelly,
I agree I'd rather the stuff that I take the time to type out not be simply just erased without explaination - but conversely since we're the guests and it's their rules I'll live with it....
Never said I had to agree with it ;)

What's a thread, let alone one that disapears. Is this some sort of Forum mumbo jumbo. ???I wear threads, and threads hold my threads together, I have threads on bolt and such, but not of them disapear, well not completely. :-\

A thread is like a topic of discussion.
EG this particular title of "Disapearing threads" is the title to a thread, which all of the content is a part of. :)

Mud Nut,
I had a post in the thread that was deleted (without explanation) that was actually defending this forum on the basis that the more forums like this the better.
I think if there are rules for those of us who join these forums there should also be rules for the people who run them and invite us to use them.
It is a bit like a pub. Sure the punters have to behave themselves. But so do the staff. The notion that you can do what you like because it's "your" forum is a false one IMHO.
All I expect when you feel the need to delete a thread is an explanation.

I agree. An explanation would be good to those involved & maybe a warning for posting something which may be derogaratory to the mag or forum so as to prevent future occurances.
Unfortunately it would be difficult to put this in place until there are a solid set of rules defined though.
Its simple,
post stuff worthy of staying and it wont get deleted,
dont reply to threads which dont follow this and you wont get stuff deleted.
If one post in a thread needs attention Im sure the rest of the thread will stay.

This about the size of it. Kelly, you must have got caught up in the fun and games of our first week. Just dont type anything before [/quote ] in the quote part as this is the html to show the end of the quote.
You can edit anything in inside the quote area though to reduce the post size.
