So me and Kat decided we needed a trip to Tassie. So on the boat we went, sleep on the ocean recliners, wasn't as bad as i thought.
Day 1 plan was to head down to Montezuma falls and go in via Montezuma Falls tk. Track was very wet and before long came across the first fallen tree.

I wasn't going to fit under that one, so out came the chainsaw and I made quick work of it.

After a bit more driving and a lot of water we reached the falls.
Ahttp://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030439.jpg
Once we got into the falls there was another couple there although they had taken the main road in then walked 2 hours to get there....suckers haha
After a few photos and some lunch we were on our way again.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030448.jpg
So Back out of the falls and on to Ring River tk, where the sign at the top said this track is rated hard and should not be attempted in wet weather, so I went down it anyway haha. Although it wasn't long before we came across another big stick.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030465.jpg
So out with the chainsaw again...
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030471.jpg
So we got rid of the stick and kept going, after a big deep bog hole we came across another stick, although this one was about 100m long and about 1.5m wide and point straight down the track,,, no chainsaw or winch was moving this one.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030487.jpg
So we turned the car around and headed back out to the main road and back around to the other end of Ring river tk, where we found this little camp ground.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030499.jpg
Even better it was only about 10m from this:

So that was the end of day 1 after a few bundys n a bit of guitar.

Day 2
The plan was to head into the hut via the 4wd track that featured on the 4wd action dvd about a year ago which is south of Waratah.
So with a little help from Cranky Cruiser I had some waypoints to go by and was on my way. Although stopping very quickly after we came to this giant hole in an old bridge lol.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030510.jpg
So around the hole we went...
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030517.jpg
Drove on for about another 5km along a very tight muddy track that doesn't look like it gets driven very ofter only to then come across this
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030523.jpg
So I gave that a quick tug out of the way, only to get another couple hundred meters up the track and find the mother of all sticks across the track.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030534.jpg
There was no way around this one and the rain forest is so thick u can barely move, so we made the decision to head back out then in via gravel road, although the drive in wasn't so simple.
The hut was awesome very clean and not used very ofter at all!
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030548.jpg
The prado parts are still hanging up in the from the 4wd action trip lol
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030553.jpg
So after some lunch we decided to go back down to the river and get some photos of me crossing it. There use to be a bridge across but looks like it was washed out during floods.
After driving back across, guess what!? I couldn't get back across and up the other side.
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030567.jpg
After about 8 attempts and letting my tyres down to 10psi I finally managed to get back up just! No wonder many people don't go into the hut! I drove it perfectly fine the first time but I must have dumped water all over the track and made it all slippery!
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030582.jpg
This was the next river to cross if we wanted to go futher... I couldn't see the bottom of this one and being by myself decided to give it a miss... this one also use to be a bridge.

After a few drinks by the fire place we were sitting there and our friend Peter the possum decided to come have a midnight snack next to us. He was scared of us in the slightest, people must have been feeding him for years.

Day 4
So after just having a quiet night and a few drinks n guitar. We decided to do a bit of fishing and sight seeing the next day.
Although my fishing didn't exactly go to plan because the only thing I caught was crabs lol
http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii320/vrynys/P1030625.jpg
We decided to start making our way back to Devonport and stopped in a Stanely for a few hours and took a walk around "The Knut"

sheesh....not bad. Ya come down here, cut down all our obstacles, stay at our secret hut for free, steal our crabs and then nick off home. We better change the signs now all the tree climbs are gone, from hard to way to easy :D
Seriously though, sounds like a good trip. Fallen trees are an every day occurance on our tracks, as you obviously discovered. You're pretty keen tackling the river by yourself without a winch....not much traffic to flag down out there if you're stuck. Dont think the bits in your photo are off the prado, cos i'm pretty sure they didnt tow it back to the hut.

Oh that was your sway bar lol... how did u do that? it was f**ked! My rear step is now hanging up there to after I back into the log in the river.
The river wasn't to deep at all,,, had a real good look at it before i crossed it, it was just getting up the other side that was the bitch!!!
Because I was by myself I let some friends know exactly where I was planning to go and told them that if I didn't call them the next day to let them know I was out, then come looking for me lol
That's sort of north west Tassie. Where the hut is, was probably some of the best country i've driven through, it's like its never been touched in some places.

I was planning to catch one of those monster trout,,, although about 200m from the hut I was staying at had my 3 trout rods on the roofrack and a big branch caught them and snapped all 3 rods, almost cried:cry:

Looks like you two had an awesome adventure!
Thanks for sharing the photos, combined with the 4wd action dvd it sure makes me wont to visit the area someday soon.
Ive only been to Taz once, two up with the misses on our motorbike. Got to see many lovely places but nothing like your trip!
