G'day guys,
just recovering (so to speak) from the gnarlyiest, tuffest hard core 4x4 day I've had. Chrismav organised & named it a "winch trip" & by golly my old truck Tarzan & everyone else was swinging winch rope tree to tree.
I think we all recieved varying degrees of panel damage. Wesburn has a reputation as a panel cruncher & this time I was determined not to damage those freshly sprayed panels, but I did graze & slightly dent right & left rear quarters.
We had a near rollover, but Duck who was the winchy jumped on the rear step & counter balanced long enough so as the Middy could swing around right way up.

We did 3 tracks, namely Ellis, Britania & an unnamed track that apears as a dotted line on the map. That last rock step on this track was a doozy. Almost as bad as Rednecks Rock out at Neerim! Oh & we did some steep, muddy, & one particulaly deep hole on the way out but nothing compared to what we just came through.

Anyhow here are some pics, enjoy!

Here's Redneck. That machine of his has got more technology than the space shuttle. One day he decided to show us the amount of twist his new 5 link front end gives so he drove up an 8ft embankment. The damn thing nearly twisted up 180 degrees!

Here's Shaggs. I don't think I've ever seen him stuck until Wesburn
http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=30886&stc=1&d=1251441485

Here's Hulsty in the near unstopable middy. That's Duck on his rear adding ballast to prevent him rolling.

That's me in Tarzan & Brad & his beanie from Bradstroll making sure that rock doesn't knock the rear flare
http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=30889&stc=1&d=1251442479

Here's the Beast. launching out of the bog. All up 9" of lift, 35" Extremes, front locker & rear LSD wound up nice & tight to no slip diff, This thing is near unstopable but the Aldi winch had to come into operation a few times.

What do ya reckon guys?

I'm only allowed 5 pics per post, I'll let the others post some of their favourite pics. Cheers

Hey Redneck, I know you love trees, I've got video footage of you hugging one at Toolangi. but do you think you've gone a bit too far in customizing your door panels to suit the contours of the trees. Ha hahaha

You're right in saying its a once a year track though.

With that thought in mind I suppoose a carnage report might be order.
Feel free to copy & paste your details.

CARNAGE REPORT

Tarzan : Scratched & dented both sides of the rear quarter of my tub. Scratched powder coating off both sides of sliders & brush bars after using them to plough through rocks.....side ways.
I think I got away with it relatively lightly this trip

Hey Beast
What you didn't see was Jedi Master Chrismav projecting "the FORCE" from behind you, thus launching you out of the bog.

Here's Jedi Master Chrismav on the left using the Force. Hehaha

I can understand Brad'stroll & his beanie needing a bit o hocus pokus, but Shaggs don't need th'force he's in a Hilux. lol

Here's some more pics.

Here's Brads'troll. Thats Brad & Sarah his wife in the passenger seat.
Man this things' got traction. It's beadlocked, Simexed, lifted, crawl ratios & a definite contender to take home the slab offered to anyone who didn't need to winch. Oh & I can't forget the major advantage..................the beanie hahaha

Here's me at that last rockstep up unnamed Track. That's Duck on the right side spotting. He'd been spotting, tree trunk protecting, running up & down canyons & impersonating John Travolta all day![ (disco Duck?) :D

Yep, I reckon I've got some the best 4wd video footage around. 1 1/2 hours of it! seen it 3 times so far, & love every minute of it.

I've got copies already made up for you, Redneck, "Doc" & Master Chrismav. if one of you blokes could post some scenes on the forum, that would be good.

Yep thats me the winch monkey, and was more than happy to do so on track like that i just don't see the Paj quiet making it out alive on them.
What a great day out got heaps of pics even though i had my camera lens all most taken out by beast3805 launching out of the hole carn't begin to tell you how close it was but i got the shot. Pics are mainly of the back runners as its just to much dam walking up hills to get everyone. sorry
But this is the link TARZAN to all the pics and for everyone that hasn't seen them, BEAST3805 and REDNECKRACING have posted some of the good ones all ready.
Cheers cant wait till the next trip.

Good trip out, bit of panel damage to the barron, nothing to worry about though. Here is my favorite pic, the middy flexing it up good over a rock.

Damage wasnt as bad as first thought. Fixed the rear 1/4, The door actually popped out with lump of wood and a big hammer, air compressor was had dirty brushes and now fabricating a stronger panhard rod. Almost ready for the next trip lol.

Tarzan
01-09-2009, 05:23 PM
Hey REDNECK just a question, since those panhard rods bend when made of mild steel, & can be built out of tougher steel but destroy the mounts when they're wacked hard enough , then would it be a good idea to make 'em outa spring steel?

Here's a pic to compare "REDNECKS ROCK" at Neerim Sth. with that last rock step at Wesburn up "unnamed Tk."

After a bit of scrabbling for traction Redneck decided to winch. Good descision as the bloke behind him snaped a C.V. & didn't make it over.

http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=31187&stc=1&d=1251971398

Here's the side view. Mmmmm as far as difficulty, not too different to the Wesburn Rockstep.

http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=31189&stc=1&d=1251971901

winching & tyres squeeling.

http://www.4wdmonthly.com.au/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=31188&stc=1&d=1251971555

Up & over. Winching didn't stop quite there yet. It's still steep & slipery.

Whooo hooo. Good fun!

Hi Shonky'
Sorrry for not replying sooner. Yeh Tarzan has changed since you last saw it. Got a custom tray on the way too. That way I'm hopeing to avoid bashing those rear flares & quater panels I some how manage to plough sideways through these tracks on.

Ha hahaha Once a year track!. Redneck & Beast were back the following weekend.
Shaun blew a head on the Spaceshuttle & Craig put the Beast on side..
Now REDNECK's got the head off he's thinking about supecharging it.
Craig says that there's no real damage to the Beast
