Hi folks
Here's some pics and vids of our last trip to the pine plantation just north of Perth.
Most of the track is sand, there were about 11 cars of all different sorts.
It's boggy enough in winter as sand just soaks up the rain, in summer months it's hot as out here, and definately requires some low tyre pressures to get around.
Tracks every where, we basiclly stick to the main one until the large sand hills come up.
Then we turn off and thats where the fun starts, almost always need a decent run up for these hills,as it makes for a good laugh watching everyone trying to get up them.
Stopped about half way so the guys could get some grub into them and then start looking for some harder hills.
The other pics in the mud are pics a mate sent to me, where a small mud hole became a small lake and one of the nissan drivers got dtuck and did some major damage to his motor.
Always pays to check the depth first.:drink::cry:

Hi Greg could you give me directions and/or gps waypoints for that big hill in the video. Iam thinking thats the pine plantation out at wanaroo ?
Greg 80series

G-day Lloydy 100
Yes mate it's the pine plantation at gnangarra.
Hop onto the main track running under power lines and follow it north, not sure how many clicks north you go but you will eventually have a track running across the main one and if you look too the right you will see large sand hills on the right which is the track.
Follow this track and you will be in sand hill heaven, be warned though in summer months it's bloody hot up there and the sand does get real soft so low tyre pressures are a must.
We went this winter looking for some mud, that was the top 6 pics, a mate sent me, and as you can see they found some, but mostly it's sand with some awesome hills.
Might see you up there one w/end mate, enjoy.
Ps we generally start from Gingers roadhouse and go north from there.

Gnangara is fun :D
Been there a couple of times, but only once out to the hill climbs. Was just a shame my mates Pajero was having overheating troubles that day (and is now gathering leaves in his yard waiting to repair catastrophic engine troubles). One of the next closest spots to Perth, although nowhere near as good as Sawyers Valley :)
can u get onto this track from gnagara rd?

Hi Yonk
Glad to hear your interested.
Give it a go in summer as well, it's a hole new ball game and the hills are a real challenge.

We should organize a trip and Barbie, how hard could it be?
Great to get a bunch of us to meet and have a bit of fun.
Anyone game?

Hello gents
Anyone interested in a day out we are now going sunday 20th of september as saturday, we got told we were all working(dohh)
If you are interested here is the go.
We are meeting at wilbinga grove car park off wanneroo road at 9.00am sunday morning.
The first idea is to head up to seabird and have a drive around do a bit of bush work and a bbq then head up to lancelin for a play in dunes or the tracks.
2nd idea is to meet at same place-wilbinga and and head north of seabird for a bit of driving around in bush a bbq and then head toward home stopping at the sand tracks in the pine plantation and maybe find some mud for a play.
These are a couple of ideas we came up with so if anyone is keen let me know.
Cheers Jigsaw:waycool: :thumb:

i'm up for that. sounds like a plan. haven't been out of wilbinga way for ages.
i also just went and had a look at the holes at the pine plantation. and the sand away from the holes is still nice and soft but with no dust so could be fun. the lakes are pretty big and dirty as well.

silverlux
14-10-2009, 12:43 AM
yer looking for a turbo then maybe some 32s or 33 muddies dunno really depends how much 4x4ing i do had the car for 6 nonths and only been out a few times once at preston beach and been a few times to skeet st.
60's Cruiserboy
14-10-2009, 12:49 AM
awww skeet street, went there with my mate he had a gu patrol, and he got stuck in this water hole his chassis bottomed out on the sand everything went under the water, was there from like 4 till 1 in the morning pulling him out with just my 4wd,not even a 12000lbs winch worked, lol but yeah swampy as there
silverlux
14-10-2009, 12:57 AM
haha yer its pretty fun there wasnt too game tryin the swampy shit didnt want to get bogged as was only there with a matein the car and no other 4bie to pull me out just went up an down the little hils and threw the soft sand the hilux went pretty well was suprised i didnt get bogged in the sand
60's Cruiserboy
14-10-2009, 01:00 AM
but yeah probably 33" would be good, lol i went 35's and i had to upgrade all my axles to handle the strain, only reason i got them is for the diff clearance and to make my 4wd more balanced cos it sways alot took all the sway bars off to lift my car up
60's Cruiserboy
14-10-2009, 01:04 AM
ahahah yeah plenty of fun there, my 4wd was so messed up after that
silverlux
14-10-2009, 01:05 AM
yer maybe 33s probly get a turbo first tho to help turn them the lux is slow enough lol
60's Cruiserboy
14-10-2009, 01:09 AM
yeah, wat engines in it, im only running the 2h diesel 4.0ltr 6cyl, ive got a turbo along with straight through 3.5" piping but havnt fitted it yet
silverlux
14-10-2009, 01:16 AM
just the 2.8 deisel when i bought it engine only had 20,000 on it so should go ok with a turbo looking for one of those ct20s off the surf and will jus fit it myself .think they fit on without to much mods.
willy08
14-10-2009, 01:17 AM
If it was me i would be happy with the speed of a lux but then again thats coming from someone in a 1.3L sierra
silverlux
14-10-2009, 01:20 AM
haha lol is the zook really that bad was about to buy one of those.
willy08
14-10-2009, 01:24 AM
theyre not actually that bad its just every now nd then you get annoyed with them and sometimes off road you do need that extra bit of power ive found but im getting used to finding the higher torque range to get out of trouble now.
they have a decent power to weight i mean its the 1.3L but it only weighs just over 1000kg with someone in the car.
also when you put the bigger tyres on dont forget the reduction gears they help dramatically from what iv heard
silverlux
14-10-2009, 01:27 AM
yer true done any mods to the zook?
60's Cruiserboy
14-10-2009, 01:28 AM
yeah ive never driven one before, should be easy to fit a turbo if its done around 20,000km, you just gotta adjust the injector pump to get the correct air/fuel ratio, but yeah not sure on wats involved too, with mine i have to readjust the pump, drill a hole into my sump for oil return and tap into a oil supply line and all the intake connections and exhaust
willy08
14-10-2009, 01:28 AM
na only work thats been done on it is changed the shockies because they were dead put on some spotties and replaced the engine because it cracked the block nd destroyed the head. if it wasnt for the engine i would have it lifted and some protection on it by now
60's Cruiserboy
14-10-2009, 01:31 AM
yeah to get good performance out of big tyres, reduction gears help out alot
silverlux
14-10-2009, 01:36 AM
yer just got to retune the fuel pump ,and remove some exaust manifold studs so the turbo one will fit , then plumb in some oil and water lines for the turbo somehow .do you know if its better to fit a bigger exaust to suit the turbo or can you keep the stock zaust?
60's Cruiserboy
14-10-2009, 01:48 AM
yeah its improves the performance of the turbo and allows for better flow,u should be able to keep the original exhaust , u might have to make up a dump pipe to fit the stock exhaust tho

Well depending on the weather, beach driving could be good stop and go for a swim as well,
You can go from Tims Thicket south of Mandurah all the way down to Preston or Myalup beach, past lake Clifton. but any where is good

Trying to organise a trip down harvey or collie but wont be for a few more w/ends yet as most of our guys work shift so it's a little way off at the moment, unless you are interested in a mid week run some time.
