G'Day all,
I have just got my self a bj40, and thats were my problem starts. I assumed it is a 40 because its a 4 speed box and drum brakes and no air con. But on the vin number says its a BJ42 and stamp says it has it has a 3b engine. thats when i become a bit confused so which is it? or has some one before me put 40 series parts in a 42?
any help would be good. not that im worried either way but it would always be nice to know.
Cheers
Aidan

Aidan,
You will probably find that it is a 42 - I have a 1982 '42 LX, which has disc front, drum rear and no a/c.
I know that the 83-84 came out with the 5 spd - LX models then also came with a/c.

you can have a 40 with a 3,4 or 5 speed box. they got disks up front in '76. AC was an option in '79(?).

Could be my old girl but it would have a bj40 vin with a 42 tub and a 3b thats actualy a 2b running a 3b injector system and a 3b rocker cover, 42 power steering drum brakes alround( but disc brake master cylinder).

not entirely true. that info is based mainly off US stuff.
for instance, some 78 Fj40's came with drum brakes
