After meeting up with Shonky at Yarck for his maiden trip into the High country after taking on the Border Track only 3 weeks before in the 80 since the navara.Then joining up with Tim B at Mansfeld it was time to head for the hills with Joe T meeting us later that evening.
This weekend was spent camping on the King River with some tracks thrown.. It was a more camping R&R weekend before the seasonal track closures start after the long weekend. We had a good camp spot with only a few other campers there. We collected firewood on the way in loading up the roofracks of the patrols. We headed up Carters ln checking out Thomohawk Hut on the Buckland spur tk then up No.3 track before joining the curcuit rd and heading down to the King River. Crossing 4 0f the 5 river crossings before a campsite was picked out. Once the fire was started as the drizzle/rain set in for the day/night. Since fitting the awning to the GU it has rained everytime I've been out. Joe T met us and a relaxing night by the fire was enjoyed by all as we watched 4wdrives passing along the King River Rd. The next moring we rose to more drizzle with a pool of water on top of the awning during the night all was good and ready to hit soem tracks. We headed out Speculaton Rd rejoining the Circuit Rd then headed down to Bindaree Hut passing Bindaree Falls. From there we climbed 16 mile Jeep Tk then headed up to the rebuilt Bluff Hut where snow was starting to fall. Once leaving there we made our way down to Sheepyard Flats and cooked up lunch before heading out to Mansfeild for the run home.
Having done a lot of trips with Tm B and Shonky off the forum it was good to have a relaxing weeknd sitting by the fire and listening to the river. There will be many more weekends like this one, We have plenty in mind for the coming months!!
