Just 2 quick questions about alternative fuel filters for my 2.5L V6 98 Grand Vit; and apologies if this has been covered before, didnt see anything in a quick search.

1. The filter is often difficult to walk in and pick up off the shelf (and hence a little pricier) at some parts places, however, the filters from either a Nissan R32 Skyline or VT-VY (V6 & V8) Commodores seem identical save for different 90 deg bends in the 8mm lines on the filter housing (upstream on the GVs, its downstream on the Commo and both are straight on the R32) which shouldnt represent an installation hassle.

Do you think I could use these on the GV?

2. The OEM filter position is on a crossmember, just above the rear diff housing - ie, a right PITA to get to. Is it safe or worthwhile to consider moving that into the engine bay - either as a similar filter or even one of the universal filters (which is much bigger, has glass water trap and drain, etc etc)?

Thanks in advance!

Water trap style filters can't be installed downstream of a high pressure fuel pump. Not sure on the rest sorry.

Thanks pig dog, I guess I'll just keep hunting around for some more info on the specifications, and if they match up... see how we go :)

the v6 toyota one from the 4runner had high pressure flare nuts and was a hard filter to find, let alone change on a good day. Mine packed it in and the only one i could get a hold of was a VN/VP commodore one. A bit of fuel hose and double clamped is how it sits till today, half the price to change over and half the time to do so.
