Hi guys,
i have a D22 Navara STR 3L petrol V6. Iv noticed that the fumes coming from the exhaust smell very fuely. Now obviously i know that it will smell of exhaust fumes, but it seems very fuel concentrated and is unbarable to be close to for a few seconds, i had to take the tow bar off and couldnt be anywhere need the exhaust for any period of time.would this be the engine running to rich or soemthing? Do any other people have this problem or what could i do to check if things are ok (oxy sensor?)?
any help is appreicated
cheers

You should be able to go to anyone who does dino tunes, and have them stick a probe up the exhaust to tell you if you are running too rich. Also are you using the right grade of ulp, like 95 or 98 octane for your engine? And has your fuel consumption changed recently?

true, badly carboned plugs won't burn properly. Also a blocked air cleaner will run richer mixtures, but these days car computers take care of this. Always start with doing a regular service, inspect the plugs for excessive carbon and make sure you put the correct temperture plugs in. Also, with the motor running, unscrew the oil cap and check for excessive blow by (smoke) out of the top of the rocker cover, this indecates worn rings, which could lead to the plugs becoming so fauled or do a compression test. Happy trouble shooting.

It could be a crook oxygen sensor or temp sensor. Also if your thermostat is stuck slightly open it will make your engine run cooler than normal so your computer will pump more fuel into the engine.

And of course, if your O2 sensor ain't working, the extra fuel will tend to screw up your cat converter after a while. Is the car running alright other than the stinky exhaust?

I 4got about the oxy sensor. The car is running fine otherwise. If you stand behind the car you can really smell it, when i was taking the tow bar off the other day i had to turn the car off. Its up for service in the next month so il have to get them to check it out

Probably because the price of fuel has come down a bit. $60 now = slightly more fuel than you used to get.
