G'day Everyone,

Just wondering about your thoughts on single cabs and x-tra cabs which one is better? and can you still sleep in the back of an x-tra cab

Cheers

Matt :)

Depends on what sort of ute you are looking at. some have a fairly large area back there, but some are only a few inches bigger than a single cab so are a bit of a wank

I reckon the extra cab is OK if you can use it.
Check it out, look at what fits & if it doesn't, save yourself some $ & get the standard single cab.

I have to agree with Baby Troupe. I have a Dual Cab only
because we have two daughters but if there were no kids
then a single cab would do me just fine. Extra Cabs aren't
exactly worth the money but then again some people like
that area for there tow rope amd snatch strap. The Ford
F-Series are roomy but do you want to go that big. ::)

I agree with luxute that some xtra cabs are a bit of a wank as they don't really give you much room. Best thing to do is go around the dealer show rooms and jump in and see how much room there is and see if you can fit.

G'day all,

I have owned two single cabs and now i own a duel cab cab hilux i, have also been away camping with a few extra cabs. In my opinion the extra cab is your best bet, there is no room in single cab for anything even two sleeping bags.

I say buy an extra cab put an alloy tray on it it should be long enogh to sleep on and than you can secure and keep stuff dry in the cab

mate of mine bought a dual cab and had half the back seat chopped out so he could seat 3 people inside plus a fridge and a small amount of other gear before everything went into the tray... ;D ;D ;D

I have 2 HiLux Xtra Cabs a 1985 V8 and a 2003 V6.
Reason I like them is I always feel cramped in a standard cab the Xtra cab has plenty of room to stretch out.
I rarely have a need to carry more than 1 passenger

My 85 doesnt have seats in the back but is good for storage I have built shelf for in the back that will hold a small fridge, tools recovery gear etc..
I can also keep my swag and bedding dry and dust free.

The 2003 is over a foot longer than my 85 it will seat 2 adults quite comfortably for shorter trips or a couple of kids.
I did look at both the dual and xtra cab when shopping around the dual cab just didnt have a large enough tray for me.
I like to sleep up off the ground especilly when there are crocs around.

I think the Xtra Cab is the best choice unless you have a need to carry passengers regularly.

xtra cab for sure, as mentioned before single cabs have no room for anything else, even if its maps, camera, food, bedding, and in some cases a fridge will fit, the xtra cab makes that little bit easier

definately xtra cab.. the old man has one and he gets heaps of crap behind the seat.. it's amazing what he gets in there ;D

saying that you'd be amazed what i get behind the seats in the cruiser..lol ;D

Bung a tray on the xtra cab and you will have as much room in it as a single cab, thanks to the extra width, length and not having the wheel wells poking up. I did it to my dual cab and it's a vast improvement in carrying capacity. Also easier to fix dents / scratches in an alloy tray too.
