Hi there,
My mate has an 07 (approx) TJ Wrangler and has just fitted a 2inch Tough Dog Suspension kit to it, as well as wider flares. He is now looking at fitting some larger tyres.
He has asked me to do some research on here relating to how his truck would handle larger tyres.
What mods are recommended to fit 33's? And approximately how much and how easy to fit these mods?
Sorry for the questions. I drive an 85' Toyota 4runner so a bit different hey!
Cheers,
Mark

Hey mate he will need to lift it a bit more with at least a 1" body lift and some coil spacers or just get rid of the Tough Dog stuff and get a Rubicon Express 4.5" kit and this will fit them with a 1" body lift with no rubbing. As for gearing it would also need to be changed as well because of the difference in tyre sizes. And to do this it requires a front locker to fit aftermarket gears. I don't know any of the pricing but it can get quite expensive quickly but i hope this has helped a bit.

Basically, the absolute minimum you will need is a 2" (50mm) total of lift for street use and 3" (75mm) total if you want to take it offroad. To achieve 3" of lift you can either get a 3"+ suspension lift or a 2" suspension lift + a 1" body lift. If you go with a full 3"+ suspension lift (not the 2" lift + 1" bofy lift) you will also need to get a SYE & driveshaft for a 3" lift because anything 3"+ puts too much angle stress on the factory output shaft for regular offroad use
You need to get new rims & fender flares to accomodate the wider rubber also.
3" lift up to $1500
SYE $1100
Flares $800
Rims ?$'s
etc

No worries,
He already has a 2inch lift so I think he's going to go with the 1.25" body lift and give it a shot with 33's. I don't think he's too keen to switch diff ratios at the moment but may do down the track if it loses much sting.
Do you think with these mods there will be much rubbing still?

With a 2 inch suspension lift and 1.25 body lift there shouldn't be much rubbing at all. If there is then he can always put longer bumptops in which can help a great deal.

Im running 2" lift (if that) with flatties and 33's. Ive extended bumpstops so theres no rubbing and its working real well. No bodylift.

ive got the xenon 6" flat flares which are great. Theres other options like genright flat fenders which are steel or custom ones can be fabbed up. The ones I have just bolt onto the standard fenders.
Heres a pic of the flares on my rig...

Yeah he's got some of those flares ey. Forgot to mention it. He found some 33" Khumo Road Venture AT's on here in Melbourne so may be grabbing em. If so we'll run with the body lift and get it happening. I'd better watch out! Not going to be able to keep up anymore!
