would you consider a second hand engine? may save you the cost and if you have any mates who are mechenics, put on beers or something and they may be able to do it or help ya with it.
cheers ben

yeah mate but the issue there is reliability as we do alot of long distance trips i think we might have to bite the bullet so to speak i have looked into engine conversions but they all blow the budget badly also trying to find a workshop here in s.a that is reputable

mate when you said bang what exactly has happened to the motor? has it actually blown up or is there somethijng simple that has gone wrong as the old motors in the gq are pretty tough. they do have some issues with the 2.8 T/D but the 4.2 and petrol are pretty strong.

cheers for the reply mate i presume its blown by the smoke pouring out the exhaust and the sound of metal slapping around inside its the 4.2 petrol on gas

How about replace it with a cheap secondhand engine and then sell the rig and buy something else.

what's actually wrong with the engine.....take head off spend up to $1000 and its as good as gold

sump can come off in the chassis so then you can do rings and conrod (big end0 bearings for about $300.....all up with oil, gaskets and head should get in at $1500

so long as you can do labour your self and the crank, pistons and mains are ok!!!

Obviously i dont know what happened to yours but you may be able to give it a birthday, with out a full reco...!!
good luck

where ya from ??

if your interested in a rebuild i have a tb42 block sitting around i would recomend it be fully rebuilt it has benn sitting outside in the weather !

i looked into a conversion if you have the know how it could be converted to a 350 chev or a vn onwards v8 but not many will do the conversion to an auto i would have thought it would be easier to do an auto rather than a manual but it seems noe
