Hi All, I am trying to find the timing marks on a 80 series 3f motor. I know they are suppose to be on the flywheel at the rear of the motor but when positioning no:1 at tdc I can only seee a black circle through the inspection hole. There are no degrees marks. Is this correct or am I totally wrong. Also what might be the best timing for a Duel fuel (manily gas) 3 f carby motor? Thanks in advance.... cheers Jadan

there are 2 marks slightly apart one is TDC the other one is 8 deg from memort 9 what ever the timing is supposed to be set at ...if setting at gas the you need to advance it to aprox where say 11-12 would be
as a guide for setting timing up for lpg
....lpg requires an advanced spark a perfect world a new distributor curve ( not happening as need petrol still
...set the ignition timing aprox 4 deg before std setting....then take for a drive on PETROL....does the engine ""PING""
...if it does back it off a small amount, road test for ping ..repeat if necessary
...if it DID NOT ping then bit by bit give the distributor more advance ..road test ....REPEAT once you get to the ping point back it back equivelant of about 2 deg
This gives the maximum timing advance that it can run on petrol....NOTE this is not the most efficient or best performance settings for petrol, but it will give an lpg engine best settings available whilst still retaining petrol drivability
