G'day guys just trying to nut out a few probs when running on petrol. The car only seems to want to idle above 1800rpm, so I figured the fuel filter had done its day. When replacing the fuel filter I noticed the the lines were all cracked and perished but I didnt have time to replace them cos I was going on a trip the next day. When on the trip I sprung a fuel leak  when trying to run petrol. If the lines had small leaks would this cause enough loss of pressure (or suck air) to make it splutter? I also noticed when looking down on the filter (clear plastic) that the fuel was pulsing back and fourth and not holding a steady stream. Is this normal? I am now replacing the fuel lines and have dropped the tank to connect to the pump and found this huge cylinder about 80mm radius and about 70mm tall mounted on top of the tank. I assume this is the pump. Why is it such a large odd shaped unit? Where can I get a replacement?
cheers,
Pat..

Is that aka the idler jets in the carby? Just clamped all the lines together and kicked it over. Ran perfectly for about two minutes then started to to get wobbly. Turned it off and found more leaks in the lines after a little relay looking thing. Dont know what it is. Goes from there into the carby. Can small leaks in the lines cause this aswell?
cheers

Small leaks in the fuel lines should not cause your engine to play up at idle. The problem will be a blocked idle jet.
I think you should replace all your fuel hoses before your vehicle catches on fire and pull your carby apart so you can give all the jets a blow out with compressed air.

Did the problem start all of a sudden or had it been building up to the stage it is now, is it hard to start from cold? or any other symtoms?

yeah more info will help, also fix those fuel lines if you like your car bro ive seen it happen and it aint pretty. But if you think it the jets slightly blocking up,take off the air cleaner, rev the engine fairly high a few times and dump your hand over the top of the carby blocking air intake, this sometimes can suck the shit through and fix the blockage. And make sure the fuel filter you fitted is facing the right way...lol
