Was talking to a service station attended and he told me shell provides 95 and 98 octane fuels to BP and caltex .
There was a shortage of these fuels recently at most suppliers BP,Caltex,Shell I had noticed last week. He said there was only 3 refineries in Brisbane producing high octane fuels,
Does anyone know if this is true I always thought that the big servos produced thier own fuels. He did say 91 octane was produced by themselves independently.

Thanks for your thoughts

can confirm mch of what you have been told.
here in newcastle the fuel gets pumped through a line from sydney to newy-from there bp gets theirs first, then shell, then others-what additive and how much they them add is up to the particular brand-but the high octane and ethanol fuels are bought in from the sydney refineries.
thats about as much as i can tell you-im sure someone else here on the forum will have more info-cheers

On a side note, BP standard unleaded is 10% ethanol.

i use to work for a civil company in shell and caltex refineries and bp ran off the side of shell it only had a tank farm and no plants but shell has a hf acid plant itd the only one in the souther hemispher but its deadly stuff an thats how they get higher octane fuel and caltex was on its owne and just used an adative to get a higher octane
