Hi Every one,
Im thinking about taking the Gas System off my GQ, with the price of Gas still up around .75c/lt its really not worth having on it up here (Nth QLD) my main probs are Whats the legailitys with removing the system, and where is a good place to get and original fule tank for a GQ (None at the wreckers for 6 months now!)
Has anyone out there done this before? any advice / Help would be appreciated

Thanks

i am not sure of the legalities of removing the gas system i couldnt imagine there being much of a problem but best to ring dot for more info. and as for the fuel tank possibly try a wreckers down the coast a bit further and get it couriered up to townsville. also people on here from time to time are selling things like that have a look in the classified section. and if it still has the original carby and hasnt been run of fuel very often or at all id imagine you will probs have to put a kit thru the carby or it wont run properly.

In all seriousness, after many years fitting gas in one of Queensland's busiest LPG workshops, this is all you need to do...

1) Turn off the service valve on the tank (The main tap). Even after you do this, you'll still get residual gas coming out when you undo the flare-nuts on the service line, but it won't run for long.

2) Remove the fuel lock from the fuel line (I'm assuming it's carburettored), other wise if it's injected just hard wire past the selector switch in the cab so the injectors are always powered up.

3) Start unbolting stuff and taking it off. (Don' forget to take the mixer out of the air filter/intake!)

4) Call me and I'll come and buy it off you!

I wouldn't get to excited about the fuel prices being lower. No matter how low the price of petrol goes, LPG will almost certainly be cheaper.

Hope this helps,

Rob.

The issue with gas prices is it is only adjusted once per month - so it can take a long time to go up or down. Just hang in there and it should be cheaper soon.
