View Full Version : If money were no object what can you do to a 100 Series?
FUN-TOY

I have 100 series lifted 7 inches. 4 susp and 3 body.
But the rear right tyre keep rubbing on the chassis when the angle abit snobby offroad. Is the offset rims the only answer to this? Yes--you can see the rubbing mark on the black chassis.
Also how to get rid off that vibration? So far Ive been given 2 options. Either lower it down by 1 and means I can't fit those 39 Baja Claws anymore or change it to part time 4WD
Any more suggestion is most welcome.

Mate,
Take a look at the latest 4WD Monthly, the guy that made Pat's custom wheels is in there and he may be able to help you. Looks like he knows what he is doing. and his prices were suprisingly cheap.
Don't ever lower your truck, that'd be bad, m'kay!
All the best,

If your tyres dont rub, it means you can fit bigger ones.

Bugger beated to the punchline :-X
If it's only rubbing then it ok...If it's RUBBING them maybe plasma cutter time?
BTW madipantat,
I sorta disagree, I've lowered my TJ by 1" just to help keep it nice & stable...When I start looking at bigger tyres I'm planning to cut the guards to get them to fit ;D
(TJ was 5½" susp + 2"BL, now only 4½" Susp & 2"BL)
Re:If money were no object what can you do to a 100 Series?
Sell it...and then buy and lift a Grand Chero...

Well, looks like Mickey Thompson Claws. They are actually 38 point something....The thing is I still can't fit them, cause until now I cant find nice flares to cover them to make it legal on road. I like Bushwreck flares, but they dont make flares for 100 series just yet. Some people said cause they dont have the 100 in US.
(Anybody knows where can I get flares as good as Bushwreck look?)
And I dont like to tow trailer just to change tyres for off road.
Right now the truck has 35" coopers on it.

To cut my not even 1 year old baby? :o Hmmmm :-\ I think that would be the last resort depend on how high I want the diff off the ground. Maybe at the moment the best bet is to fit offset rims or/and wheel spacer. But thats mean I have to look for flares which until now I cant find one.
How many of youse here been stopped for tyre out the legal requirement?

Ahhh i see now. I doubt you will be getting the 16/38.5-15LT Claws onto a 100 series without some major cutting of panels even with 7" of lift. These are a huge tyre. Way bigger than most Swampers/Boggers. These actually measure closer to 40" mounted on a 10"rim.
If you are allready rubbing the frame with 35/12.5 then you are going to have more than half of the16/38.5-15LT to even have a chance of it not rubbing. And that little front diff centre isnt going to like reversing with the weight of the cruiser and the added grip of a tyre this size.
IMHO you would be better off looking at a 37"MTR or a Q78 Swamper These would both fit with very little hassel and the drive train would have a better chance at survival.

Yup - If ya wanna fitthe big meats best - IMHO - you gotta get your baby circumcised ;)
I've never had a problem with the law & my 35" & 36" tyres.....but they are well covered, don't rub, i only drive low milages in it each year (about 3,000pa) and I try drive sensibly on the road to not draw attention to myself ;)
BWT wheelspacers aren't road legal so if you need to get the rims out wider you'll need to get the offset changed...

Id get rid of the 'gay' toyota bar off the front ;)
And go bigger wheels, Ive seen flares on a new 100 series just recently (it was a TD with faily big lookin wheels/tyres) but have no idea where they come from.

Before i go for bigger than the 35" I would replace the axle with unimog first. Apair of those would raise up the diff without changing the tyres and also bigger chances to get engineer approval if you want to fit 42" LEGALLY. I am still hunting for the Unimog

Mogs are available in Australia right now and are for sale.
Contact Strange Rover on the Outerlimits forum i beleive he has some he may sell. http://www.outerlimits4x4.com/PHP_Modules/phpBB2/profile.php?mode=viewprofile&u=2
If not he can point you in the right direction for a guy that sells them.
Also i dont beleive there will be voting for entries into Tuff Truck next year. I think you are going to have to earn your entry for the next one.

Is this road legal? and what state? Here in QLD you are only allowed 2" body lift and you are not allowed more than 1/3 your origional bumpstop according to DOT?

You can get it engineer certified in most states, but is often a pain in the rectum.
no way

I had the bar extended, and all necessary things extended (eg. diff breather). And using Rancho in cab adjustable and Dobinsons spring. But if you want only to lift 4" or less, its better to do susp lift only, without body lift. Thats enough to fit up to 36" tyres.

If money was no object then you could just run it into the ground have alot of fun doing it and then buy another one.
But that is why people have padock bashers so you don't ruin a $60-$70,000 4wd ;D

a mate of mine was in a prang in his hilux with 2 inch body lift and insurance was voided, although 50mm was legal DOT and coppers now hav sed that any modification of original body height from chassis is illegal and the vehicle will be defected on site even with engineers certificate. pretty crap when i drive an IFS runner and that was my last option.

there was an article in the latest mag about a guy that had bolt on things like the mogs have on his rangie. The article said he gained about 4" lift which added clearance height to the diff.
You may be able to get some made to suit the cruiser??? Dont know how you would go with engineers and stuff but check it out.
