this is my rc crawler its pretty much stock standard atm. I have weighted the wheels and taken the foams out of the tires. i wanna upgrade the suspension links as they bend while crawling, otherwise this is a really fun truck:) Let us know what you think

G'day guys,

I've had my AX-10 for a little over three months now, and I love it.

I also own a Traxxas Revo 3.3 and a Jato, which are both stupidly fast and twice the money. Long story short, I get the most enjoyment out of my AX-10!

I too, removed the foams from the tires and found that the traction went through the roof. You can really hear the tires gripping on rocks and I notice it was a lot more sticky when I was just driving it around on the floor at home.

Definitely fit the locker into the front diff. I was all "Hey, I won't need that, driver skill will prevail" but seriously, once it's in, you will never go back!

As far as the lower links go, they are junk! The right rear will soon turn to jelly and bend every time you need some decent torque. Aluminium arms are reasonably cheap, but my fix was to simply get some heave gauge wire and run a length of it up the inside of each arm and fix it in place with some Gaffer tape. You can't even tell from a distance and IT WORKS PERFECTLY!!! Also, I didn't have to stuff around buying all the ball-ends etc., as no-one I know of makes a complete conversion kit yet.

I also put two strips of wheel weights in each tyre and mounted the battery over the front axle. Made a big difference!

The stock steering servo is pretty average and you will find that it won't want to turn the front wheels unless the vehicle is moving. Not a big drama, but something to be aware of. A good friend has replaced his with a tougher one and swears by it.

They can handle a pretty big tumble down a rock face and once you get the centre of gravity worked out, they land on their feet a lot of the time as well.:thumb:

You will need to cut the wheel arches out a fair bit to get max twist/flex. I've had to take a HEAP out of mine and can now get the axles to 90 degrees from one another.:D

Another good little free tweak concerns the springs: From the factory, the springs are far too firm to do any serious crawling, so before I went out and dumped a fist-full of cash on springs, I simply pulled the stock ones out and slipped them over a long screwdriver. One at a time I compressed them down with my fingers till they bottomed out which actually reset them so they became a little lower. I put them back in and guess what, the suspension now works awesome and the springs are now the perfect length get the shocks just back to full stretch! Now, it tracks beautifully and hardly ever lifts a wheel while crawling.:thumb:

So don't be afraid to have a play. These mods I did were originally to "get me by" until I bought the right parts, but honestly, I no longer plan to!

Have fun!!!

Robbie. :truck:

The wire I used was some stuff I bought from bunnings. It is about 3-4mm thick and is also perfect for using to roast marshmallows around the campfire!

1 length per arm and a single length of gaffer tape run up the length of the arm and wrapped around. Plenty of strength and protection for going over sharp rocks!
