I need to replace the clutch in my HZJ78/1HZ Troopy very soon, it is grabbing right out near the end of the clutch pedal travel at the moment.
What is the toughest/most heavy duty clutch for a HZJ78 Troopcarrier with a 1HZ (+ aftermarket turbo) engine?
Thanks.

Usually when your clutch fails, your pedal is at the floor.Does it slip, what happens when you put it in 3rd or 4th and dump the clutch with your other foot on the brake.Does it stall instantly or run on.
Ive just put a new clutch in our cruiser(due to fitting turbo), I went for a Safari Tuff clutch(Exedy). All Ive heard is good reports on them.

Yeah I've got an Exedy Safari Tough as well. Great clutch but a bit heavier on the foot. If it's taking up high it sounds like the lining is just about worn out. Better to replace it before it leaves you stuck I reckon!

i have a H/D exedy in mine as well. Seems good so far (its sometimes a little grabby when cold but ive been told to expect that with this type of clutch)

Had a look at the EXEDY web site, looking to replace clutch in my 75 , its a 2H diesel. I see there are three to choose from.
OME replacement
Sports Tuff Heavy Duty
Safari Tuff
What is the difference between the Sports and the Safari and what should I pay for one.
My use is off road, towing, general paddock work, and road. Am in the process of upgrading the 75 and general reco.
Cheers

If it's not turboed then stick with the OEM spec or the HD. The Safari is great but heavier and more expensive. I'd say about $350 for the OEM or HD and $450 for the Safari. Can't remember what I paid for mine.
