Hi all,

Can anyone point me in the right direction for instructions on replacing the original double din radio in a 2003 hilux, with a single din radio - and one of those din pockets.

1) How is the original double din radio removed?

2) How is the new single din radio mounted? Won't the original holes be for a double din unit? Do I need to buy some sort of kit for this?

3) Whats the best place to get one of those radio pockets that then fills in the blank din space?

Id appreciate any help.

thanks

If your worried about mounting the radio, dont worry, the brackets will bolt straight onto an aftermarket radio. As for the little black insert, any reputable stereo shop will have one.

It is very easy to replace.

toyota parts will sell you a pocket to go under the radio for about $30. once you take the facia off, its very easy to understand

Thanks for the replies guys.

What about the process of actually removing the facia area covering the factory double din radio?

Something I read talked about removing the lower dash area under the steering wheel??

Thanks

Remove the ashtray, and remove the ciggie lighter, there you will find some screws. Under the rear window dimister switch, there is another screw, the rest just unclips. Dont force anything, just follow the clips and remove slowley and carefully. Its not hard, just dont force anything.

Ok thanks.

So does the drivers side lower dash area actually get removed or not? Or do I only need to undo some screws from that area?

Yes, the drivers side lower part of the dash will undo, just above the handbrake. It will unclip. There is a screw up in there too.
