Gonna have to pull the whole diff centre out as to put a new seal in, the pinion nut has to be undone. This means that a new collapsable spacer will need to be installed.
Is it actually the seal, or is it just the metal dust cover.

um....im not too sure if its the dust cover...

im guessing its the actual pinion seal, thats what i was told....

but to replace the pinion seal... is kinda a big job i guess??
not something someone could just do in their garage???

cheers

did the pinion seal in my lux about a year ago, took all of 30 minutes. As long as you don't do the nut up super tight you will not effect the collapsable spacer. To do it up too tight you will need a bar about a metre long, so just use a standard ratchet handle to do it back up.
Mark tailshaft, so that it goes back on the way it came off.
Remove tail shaft.
Use small punch to take indent out of nut.
Undo nut with big bar or rattle gun.
Mark and remove the yolk piece.
Put a bit of grease on the new seal.
Knock seal out with big screwdriver or claw hammer.
Replace seal quickly before all the oil runs out and be sure to knock it back in square.

I have never seen a seal pop out! Is the breather blocked?

Corindi: yeh the breather was chock full of mud from the last time we went wheeling, so that probs explains why the seal popped.

make sure your pinion isnt scored on the seal surface either- if it is, you'll never get it to seal again- seals last 2-3 weeks and start to weep again.

Speedy sleeves are only about $60 for one, or a new pinion from locktup4x4 isnt that expensive
