Mine has a single wheel carrier and in this pic it is loaded for a two week trip to the bush. It has OME suspension with heavy duty [200 kilo] rear springs.

Got a mate with OME heavy duty but with the remote Nitro shocks on min pressure. Max pressure was like a pogo stick. Trust me I was looking at the back of it doing the Border track. Lots of whoop dee doo's. He let the nitro out and it was like a brand new rig for him.

I have a 80 with a rear drawer system and fridge etc.. no rear wheel carrier but I have a 33" spare under the back! On the advice of the spring mob I put in progressive springs.. they said it would provide ride comfort and stability when needed..... wrong! they provided a soggy arse end that didn't provide any ride safety.... I found the springs left the car wishy washy... so I put in air bags for when I am carrying weight... better but the springs had to go..
Now I have King Springs heavy duty jobs and while the back can be a "little" stiff at times the articulation is still good and the ride is MUCH better.
I rarely ever have more than 5psi in my air bags these days as the springs do the job properly.

I had Darren's (previously ATS4X4) premium setup installed which I found pretty good after I resolved the fan blade through the radiator issue. That's another story.
The Bilstein shock/OME 864 spring setup works very well when loaded up and towing a lightweight camper trailer (750KG GVM). Believe OME now have a heavier duty spring available.

i'd be looking at new springs as the rear bar is a permanent fixture, airbags are good for the occasional help with extra loads, but for something more permanent i'd be looking at upgrading those springs.
