Hi guys.

I have a d21 nissan navara, z24 motor with carby. Its always had a bit of a missfire ever since i got it. However in the past few weeks its gone from a missfire too seeming like at times the engine is off. It will randomly turn itself off at traffic lights ect and while accelerating i get massive coughs and splutters (not constantly but on a regular basis). Its almost gaurenteed cough going up hills. I do not have a mechanical mind ive never been taught anything so tell me, what could this be? Just the timing that needs looking at? fuel delivey, spark plugs?

some help with this one would be vwery helpfull.
I have just moved and dont have a job so having a mechanic look at it is out of the question for a little bit.

A few things i have had to tweak on my z24 engine is the points in the distributor and the timing of the distributor.
I'm due for that now because i'm getting about 1 miss every 2-3 seconds at idle. I also find it bogs a bit off take off when the timing is too advanced

Sounds like it is not getting enough fuel. It could be a blocked fuel filter or a faulty fuel pump.

Agree with all the above, but could be a whole stack of things. Other things you can look at without spending any money are giving the spark plugs a clean, having a look at the air filter, and, as per minisman, check the timing. Do you have a timing gun? Can you borrow one? It would also be worth checking the mechanical and vacuum advance of the distributor while doing this. If not sure how to do this, let me know.
