Apologies if this has been done before, but what are the legalities of disconnecting or removing swaybars? I'm in Canberra and have a 1984 HJ60 G Wagon with front sway bar. I would like to try removing it but don't want to void my insurance or be illegal.

It is illegal to run without your sway bar if your vehicle was originally fitted with one. You can run off road with it but your insurance company will just wave you goodbye.

I would suggest looking into some sway bar disconnects that way its there for on the road and then you just disconnect it when on the tracks :)

Like has been said, you should have it in when on road.

I used to disconnect mine for offroad, but actually found it didn't make that much difference. It was more a confidence thing for me.
