Hey all!

Looking to get an RC car. I need some advice from people who know what they're talking about.

I have never owned an RC vehicle before (in my adult life anyway, had plenty toys as a kid) and looking to get a cheap truck or buggy to muck around with.

I want something thats a bit of an all-rounder. Tar, gravel, dirt, sand maybe?

Being my first, im looking to spend <$200 (the cheaper the better). I cannot justify spending $800 or more at the present time, for something i might use for 2 weeks then get sick of. If im still mucking around with it in a couple months time, then maybe i can cough up some real dough.

Hoping someone can point me in the right direction, As far as what to look for, where to look for it etc.

Thanks
Mike

try the local toy or hobby store for info then when u know what you want buy it on ebay and save some money or something second hand out of the trading post. You could get a $800 car for couple hundred. as it so happens someone is selling a tamiya dirt thrasher in remote control tech for $150. looks ike alright piece of gear.

I think cars like the tamiya hornet etc are buggy type 2wd and are really fun

I got a .18 nitro onroad 4wd car for $200. Ran it in and took it for a good spin. 2 speed gearbox. seems alright. I had a slight mishap and stripped the gearbox gears though, but their cheap and you can get metal upgrades. Otherwise its pretty good for $200.

And i got it from The Disc Shop haha. It's a windhobby car. Try ebay though, fairly cheap. Electric might be cheaper and easier though, and some go just as fast

You won't get much new for $200 for second hand you could do quite well. Electric is easier and in the case of the latest brushless stuff will easily show a nitro car the way home. I have a Savage that now runs a brushless setup and it's noticeably quicker than it ever was as a nitro. But a setup like that will be $1500 new. But it's good fun watching these things rip by at more than 70kph.

Something like an HPI E-Savage second hand would be worth looking at. Needs two batteries, will do about 30-35 kph, it will also handle some very rough treatment and will easily handle jumps more than 1mt high and not break, well as long as you land on the wheels that is !! I've had a couple and never broken a single part except one axle. ($11)

They are about $500 ish new so you'd probably pick one up around $250 second hand, and at least with that you could easily buy spares from a shop and you'd also be able to sell it for about what you paid for it. Buy some chinese thing off eBay and it would be worth next to nothing to sell and parts usually need to be ordered in from overseas.
