hey brad,

thanks, they will get caught, have the word out in several circles, pretty rare up here, and considering it was on a hard track, this narrows it down too.

time and karma will get them, hoping to have an answer by the end of the week......

His car was left in the bush over night because he rolled it and it was undriveable......Had Kev rang any of the local members (WORG) they would have been there to help him, and nothing would have been stolen off it..

woolgoolgaoffroad
17-08-2008, 11:15 PM
well dave because i was hurt, i didnt do anything about the car, as that was the least of my worries, and yes i could of rung you if you werent drinking, i could of rung coffs club, i could of rung non club members, i could of rung my brother, could of rung ffriggen anybody, but i didnt OK, i rolled my truck, due to a mechanical failure ( yes it will be going to court under a warrenty issue ) so be it, it happened, it does happen and my last one was nearly 8 years to the day, same truck, different area, different circumstanses, was fixed, all good, now is there anything you have to say that will help find the stuff taken or not ????.....

there are leads, so it wont be long now. and to let you know , they left behind some mounting parts, lots of prints, and the police did pull up some cars on Mount Brown road on saturday morning, did a car search- took details as these guys were in the area and suspicious, was talking to them tonite- am closer to finding my stuff, anything else i can advise you on ????

do you want to know where it happened ????...

thanks for your comments

hey chris, some small personal stuff from inside, but the lights were the main thing. but really thats not the point- it was that another 4wder did it.

Still no word from the police? I would keep an eye out but I think the chances of someone bringing them down to Tassie is pretty remote. Let us know how it turns out.

no, when i rung them back on sat morn, they were helpful, but they said the chances of finding them ( as they are pretty popular ) are pretty much zero to none, BUT, i do have an incling on where they are. am going hunting soon, so with my old pics of nearly every 4wd in coffs, i do like my chances...................................

Bad thing mate!!! should not happen. We all have to work hard to get our cars/4wd's the way we want them. Its our pride and joy! I had kids chucking big rocks on the roof of my car....fair bit of damage. But I am alive and good to hear so are you!! I don't really believe in carma and that kind a shit but what goes around........
By the way I have never heard about "locks" for spotties...Please explain..I have the Poolights and although cheapere than the light force one it took me a long time to confince my darling that we really needed them. (togheter with a lift kit, diff lock and big tyres :-)))))

Anti theft nuts are designed so they're impossible to undo unless you have the correct spanner (comes with the nuts). Just screw them onto the bottom of your lights and make sure they're tight.

Photos and more info here: https://www.expeditionexchange.com/barrinut/indexmain.shtml

I've heard several reports that these can come loose though and be undone with just your fingers. So far the best solution I've heard is to bolt them on normally, then add a second nut and give it a tiny spot weld so it can't be undone. If you ever need to get them off, 3 seconds with an angle grinder will remove the weld.

Man this sucks... no more info from the police? I'm guessing your 'narrowing down' ran into a dead end? :( What else did they get (if you don't mind me asking)? I have a few mates up in Coffs and I've already emailed them a copy of this thread. Best of luck mate.

woolgoolgaoffroad

no, the looking i did on the weekend def narrowed it down.
other stuff was personal stuff inside the 80 and some things from behind the cargo barrier....................................

Hey soz to hear about all this.. I've some sinilar stuff happen to my truck. Hope you track them down, we all know how expensive those lights are..

Also something I saw when looking on ebay, locking nuts that are suitable for Lightforce mountings. You do up the nut with a unique spanner head, so you are the only person with the right tool to undo the nuts. I've heard those are qretty cheap and dead simple to use..
Hope that helped.
Good luck mate

right, already been mentioned (the locking nuts, I didn't see)
Best of luck

I have a locking nut with a collar on it I use on my HF aerial.
It has a collar around the outside that spins freely so it is impossible to remove with anything short of an angle grinder.
Oh, and the mount bolt it screws to is 12mm stainless. lets see anyone take to that with a hacksaw...
Sound like an opportunistic thief.
Somebody will know them, only a matter of time...
You have to remember some people head off into the bush because there is no where else they would be welcome.
The same kind of lo-lifes that leave their rubbish when they leave too.
Let us know which bits they left behind.
Any dealers requested to supply the piece might be a good source of info.

I wouldn't let it go, nothing ticks me off more than people who steal, especially since we work hard to get these accessories for ourselves. Should find them and cut their hands off, or nuts, im not picky. Hope you nail the f@*&#$s

im sorry to hear they were stolen,
i cant afford some just yet am going to save for them.If you cant trust people in the same hobby as 4wd code and relise that it takes along time and lots of saving to get all the gear toghter and use them and get alot of pride out out of them as you have worked hard and saved for them.
I am truly sorry that someone took advangtage of a stranded fourby and start to strip it.I hope for your sake that you dont hourber anger and hatederd as it will eat away at you and your life will be bitter.Dont let them do that to you they arent with it at all and their will come a day they will answer for what they did on day maybe not in this life but before God thats for sure.I feel sorry for them as they will never enjoy the real pleasure of aceaving what you have and the pleasure of earning them legarly and saturfaction of it.
So im hoping that you will be compensated for them and be better for that.
I really hope that you will be better off in the long term as people care for you so keep chin up and enjoy your friends.

Good to hear that you're OK now, and that some progress is being made on the lights, and I would (as would many others I know) dearly like to hear that the perps had been caught and appropriately punished.

BUT, how about telling us what happened to cause the rollover? What broke, what occurred, have you made an ins or warranty claim, what's the future prospects on car - replace, repair, or just regret? You say you got hurt - what happened and how did you get out of the bush without your car - surely an ambulance didn't come in to get you?

Yeah, I know I'm an inquisitive barsteward, but it's all a learning curve; and besides, your experience might save someone else from the pain of injury, of rolling the car, and of getting anything flogged off the car while it's stashed in the bush!

Cheers!

Sorry to hear of the loss, to the truck glad nobody was too badly hurt..

I hate to be the devils advocate here but whats to say someone who stole them wasnt from out of town, i hate to tell u, but unless you had anything on them that distinctly identified them as being yours, like your licence number engraved on them, i doubt your going to get them back, just put that $1000 towards a new set, because there were no witnesses (or were there), its just going to be your word against his, as the cops said theyre pretty popular which they are , so they might front up to a bloke and say "we suspect these of being stolen", and he's going to say "dont know what your talking about brought them years ago - sorry lost the receipt when i moved house", its going to be up to you/them to prove otherwise...unless the cops have something solid its only going to be suspicion and suspicion wont stand up in court.

I just cant see it happening, just save the cash and get another set...

Just with these lock nut things too, i brought a set off ebay, but then ended up welding the nuts, because whats stopping someone else buying the locknuts and getting the socket, and using that to steal someones lights, wont take 5minutes if you have the right tool to get them undone...

Hey peter, sorry have been away for several days.
Cause- well they think it was something in the gearbox as i lost all drive.
Was a night run, we were only 4kms west of coffs, 4 cars, going up hill on an average hill, not real steep, nuthte ruts were bigger than my 35's. Got past these up to the next flat section, had to wait for the others to move forward, as they cleared ahead i went to move and i rooled back about 5 feet, the rear wheel dropped into a deep rut and this pulled me over to the left, i knew what was happening so i turned the engine off and held on to the steering wheel.
I cracked my left elbow on the handbrake, and popped my left knee on the gearstick. Because this track has been sharpley cut, as i rolled the roof creased in front of the cargo barrier and bent several pillars. Only one window broke and that was behind me.
Becaause it happened at 11.30 at night and it would of been too dangerous to recover it ( by any one ) we left it there to return asap in the morn. I didnt want the standard 6 hour wait at our local hospital ( as they are understaffed) so i was dropped home very sore and bruised. After i organized the police, suncorp and then a tilt tray we wandered back out there only to discover the scum had raped parts of my truck.
That hurt the most.
It took several hours to get it to the top by several trucks. Mind you it wasnt down a gully it was still across the track on a very weird angle.
Was hoping suncorp would give me the option about fixing it, but they said there were too many issuses with the body, bent diff and maybe engine damage- and of course the failure-new gearbox ??
Regrets, no way- clocked up 300 000 km in that truck, been a great era with it, and def do it all again.
It went to action at fowlers in newcastle, rumour has it that harb bought it with another body to go on it, wont be the same he says, so wait and see, good luck to him.
I was with suncorp, never a drama as it was all listed on the policy- you just have to word it right, and it was on a designated State Forest Road so that was covered.
I had 5 days off because i was xtremely sore and had to have an xray of my left elbow ( they thought i had a hairline fracture ), and my doctor wants me to have a mri scan on my left knee, but after 2 other ops on that, i really dont want to destroy cartlidge in ther that i have left.
And supriseingly yes, the ambos would of come out there as it happened on a designated trail.

So hope this answers your wonderful and colourful mind, all is good, have a touring truck now, and looks like we ( a mate that i did the 2004 whinch challanges with ) are going to restore an old truck that also rolled at emu creek when it was open to run around here with.
I will be down your way soon son maybe a catch up.

cheers and thanks

kev

Were they not covered by your insurance? Surely you put in a claim for the rollover anyway?

Yes there were covered as everything else was and my insurance claim was paid asap through suncorp, as they didnt have any drama with anything as my truck was legal.
thanks

Sorry to hear of the loss, to the truck glad nobody was too badly hurt..

Yes i realise that too, but with the contacts and a lead i have, this person just has to say the right thing to the wrong person and even if i cant get them, lets just say they wont be useable. Am not stressing about it, as i have all the time in the world and it is not in my top 10 things to achieve this year.
They were covered by the general claim so thats all good. But really thats not the point as it was another 4wder that did it, good or bad my truck has been running around here for the last 11 years so it is known.
thanks

Jesus al give me a break, go away for several days and come back and see that youve answered my requests. To any one that has been in contact with me i am all but happy to share those 2.3 seconds it took to tip over, but at the end of the day it was just a roll over, i havent been making a fuss over it just getting on with everything.
cheers and see you in the bush.
