I'm Finally cashed up and set to put extractors on themighty diesel 80 series but I have a dilemma- do I go for the custom hand made extractors leading to a 3 inch system or stick with the genies going to 2.5 inch system.

I like the idea of the custom setup but am worried about the noise factor- my bus regularly does 1000km trips and I dont want a loud drone to put up with

suggestions?

I havent ever had extractors on a fourby but have on cars before.. From my experiences might be best going with the genies, atleast their designed for max flow and torque etc where as unless you know the exhaust shop do excellent work they mightnt be able to get the 3inch performing as well as the 2 and a half unless they get flow right and bends correct etc. Another advantage of the pre made genies is you can fit em yourself and save cash rather then having to leave ur pride an joy at the exhaust shop all day then pay em to fit them.

Do you have a turbo in your bus?
because you have to go custom made if thats the case.

Loz check the latest issue of the mag, they've done the whole she-bang, and explained why a 2.5 inch system is better than 3 inch for offroading. I just wrote about it in your Hiclone thread question.

Read the article, very encouraging. I was just thinking that custom tuned pipes may give even better improvements than the figures quoted but I am concerned about LOUD I reckon I'll go the genies

Not sure on the 80 but the exhaust shop I took my 100 to had to try three or four different makes and models before they got a set to fit just right.

I've got a 2 1/2 system on mine and the noise did increase to the point where any louder would have been annoying.

I don't think you would get any benefit out of a 3" system as the old 1HZ doesn't like to rev it's ring out anyway.

just got wild cat extractors fitted, was told by lismore mufflers that they said are the newest and best breed. for the whole pipe it cost well over a grand and the wild cats r supposed to b cheaper. Even with the 2 1/2 inch pipe the 4.2 80 series runs slower & sucks more fuel than ever. And lismore mufflers doesn,t want to know about it.

If your non turbo then 3" wont scavange properly. larger diameter pipe means slower airflow spesh ona low revving coal burner.
Got a turbo, forget about noise, bigger the better and the turbo sucks up the noise.
