i was wondering if anyone has had any issues with using standard holden v8 engine mounts in a 4wd. i just want to know if the break very often or if they need to be reinforced. the v8 engine is stock standard so it is no big horse power engine.

any advice would be great.

i used the std holden rubbers on my 253 in my old mq ......nearly 3 years no issues ..and they were the donor ones too i didnt fit new ones so dont know how old they were.......but they looked good still!!!

i wouldnt reccommend fitting old ones but i did as i was on the bones of my ass!!

Hi mate.

i have a chev in a 47 series cruiser. i have alot of problems with my standard engine mounts. i have replaced them more times then i care to remember (both sides only recently) i ended up chaining the motor down to the chassis, bit of an over kill but it has seem to do the trick.

engine mounts now days are proberly made VERY cheaply from some over seas country. which def would not have helped.

good luck with your engine mount problem mate.

Thanks for the advice guys. looks like it is a bit of a case by case basis for this one guess i'll keep an eye on the new ones i put in and strengthen it if needs be. the ones i pulled off did look as old as the hills but.

This is a 253/308 kit that ive currently got listed on ebay. dos your engine mount look like these? these look like a typical round rubber, that would be easily replaced with neophane ( or what ever the red rubber stuff is called)

Your local SPEED shop will have ones that don`t break(for people who like to drag), they may be a little more expensive.

I used the standard 253, 308 engine mounts in my Nissan they were in for over 15 years never had a problem, even after getting a bit more performance out of the old 308 still they gave me no trouble. I have now used the same mounts, but they are new ones when I fitted the 1uzfe into my Nissan and I have had no problems again.

I think they are a good option as you can buy them at any auto shop if they ever need replacing.
