Howdy,
Did a search and can't see any forum messages in here with problem so created a new thread.
I have one of the new Toyota 4.5 V8 diesel's, it's 14 months old done 50,000 k's and it has suddenly decided to blow lots of dark black smoke. It's embarrasingly bad. On take off and under load just driving along it keeps on pooring out.
Toyota has been useless to deal with, they had the car for a day took video footage downloaded the computer data (2 weeks ago) and have yet to come up with a solution.
Is there a decent Diesel Mechanic near Healesville in Melbourne ?

A Cruiser with engine problems? Naaaahhh! (hint of sarcasm) Now your wondering why you were brainwashed into it like the rest of the mugs who think cruisers are the be all and end all.
All in fun.
Seriously, it will be interesting to see what comes of this. Let's see if toyota can back their mighty new donk.
Could be a range of things from electronics to blown cylinder to injection timing etc.
Have you lost power?

If its under warranty I would be taking a chill pill and see if they can work it out.

Yeah all stil under warranty which is all good I guess just the smoke is really really bad. I can sneak into town and home without to much throttle and too much smoke killing people but my once a week trip to the city is not much fun. The looks, glearing people, beep beeps fingers arn't making it much fun :(.
Burtbunch ( Have you lost power?): Yeah lost a little power and I think it has more rattle always has than our tray version same motor. Sometimes the vibration makes me think it's running (off and) on 7 instead of 8! Using more oil than my last turbo 6 apparently this is normal for the new motor
Oh well will let everyone know what they find.

At least black smoke suggests that it's dumping fuel. With all the newfangled electronics on the new common rail TDs, it could be as simple as a loopy sensor or something far more dire. At least it's under warranty.

I have read a few comments about oil usage in these motors, but I've been driving 2 of 'em for 8 hours a day.Around town and in da bush, and havent had any oil consumption.
Theirs about 6 out here ,and none have problems.
On the other hand, I'd still rather have a 1hz:o

2 and a half weeks later Toyota called. They have the car booked in tomorrow to fit 2 new injectors. They need the car all day (must be a big job), fingers crossed it fixes the problem.

Got a mate who works for Toyota and I asked him about the V8's using oil. His response was a big smirk and "tell me a v8 diesel that doesnt use oil".
When I asked them what Toyota was doing to fix the issue, he said he didnt know but he had seen a customer fix the issue by making the car actually do some work...eg: loaded it up and pulled a trailer full of sand about for 2 weeks.
I am not sure that I'd be happy todo that if I'd forked out for a new cruiser, but I beleive what he says.

Both the ones here work pretty hard pulling cattle in trailers and farm machinery in the 2ton+ range so will be interesing to see if the oil used is same or less than other's with same engine.
Why am I still awake ? baby with colic :(

2 new injectors installed today and it's almost back to normal. Apprently a few days and the computer will adapt and it should be all good...
