hi there,
i have a 1991 holden rodeo with the 2.6L 4cyl isuzu built motor under the hood...now...it is thirsty as all hell and so i was toying with the idea of converting to LPG.
my question is this...
has anyone else done it to this motor before?
i only ask because being an older model car i want to make sure there will be no problems with it on gas.
cheers,
Mat.

Hi mate, i worked at a holden dealership for 10 years so have seen a fair few of these motors on lpg, not good if ya doing hi km's as heads are alloy and valves and seats burn out and is expensive to reco heads or replace depending on how bad it is. sureley its not that thrsty is it?

well i get 19-20L/100km...so it is just a little thirsty for a 4cyl motor.
oh, and thats with or without muddies on...muddies only make me lose about 20km's out of a tank.
I had a 96 Rodeo which had LPG. I assume it's the same EFI donk. By the time we sold it, it had around 300ks on the odometer and the motor was a little tired, but used no oil, did not smoke and I'd highly recommend it to you. The gas tank was only small, I think 55lts to fill it and it got around 270-300ks per tank. Much cheaper than petrol. We put an upper cylinder lubricant bottle on it to help the valve issues, but some installers reckon that to be a waste of money. I did over 100ks in it and there were no probs at all.

hmmm...
i spotted a guy driving a 4x4 rodeo last weekend (exact same as mine) and it was on lpg...i was working and so i stopped and tried to catch him to ask him but he was gone before i got to him.
maybe i will just book it in and get it done.
and if it turns out to be no good its not actually going to cost me anything...i know the guy who does it and it will cost me $1900 to have it done, so add in the $2000 rebate and i make $100...lol.
sweet.

Not wanting to be provocative but I find that opinion/standpoint curious... it is a well known fact that LPG did wicked things to pre-ULP engines (as lead is a substitute lubricant) but I was always under the impression that due to ULP being a dry fuel (in terms of lubrication) engines designed specifically to run on it were suitably altered/enhanced by the manufacturer to compensate for this thus making them also suitable for LPG as a byproduct ;)
Mat_P 20L/100Km is a very high consumption rate for these engines, I'm guessing you do most of your driving under congested city conditions and perhaps even short distances?
Currently our rig is returning 11~12.5L/100Km however long distances and extremely conservative driving would be helping that figure considerably as short point-to-point driving doesn't always allow sufficient time for the (fuel rich) cold start system to settle down to normal operating parameters.
When was your engine management system last overhauled? I ask this because the MAF sensor and TVS alike have a compounding effect on fuel usage (but not as much as that leaded right foot) as does the exhaust sensor.

I had a 2wd rodeo 2.6efi.
Hungry as hell on fuel.
weather it was driving around town or on a trip.
you can put them on gas!
you just have to adjust the valves every 10,000km
they pull the valve into the head weather they run on petrol or gas
