G'day guys,
I put a post on the site a while ago now asking about the turbo diesel 80 series cruiser smoking when I drive... I got a heap of advice on what the cause of it could be etc and one of the topics was to put a 3" exhaust on it to reduce the back pressure of gasses on the turbo!
I went to the local exhaust guy who had a look at my truck and said that the 3" system was the way to go! cost $900
Being that I don't have $900 I asked for alternatives and he can do a 2 1/2 " system from the flexi pipe with a hot dog or resonator and a straight through truck muffler (apparently they have fibreglass baffles and don't restrict the flow too much??) for $300....
My question is basically would it be worth it?
I was told that the standard mufflers were quite restrictive in nature and add to that the squashed pipe over the rear axle and I am thinking it would be $300 well spent.
I am expecting that this exhaust would give the car more low down torque and a quicker wind up on the turbo..
What do you think?
