Hey there,
Had a mishap lately at the bowser,(wont say who's responsible), but the results were about a litre of unleaded fuel being added to the 90 litre tank(it was full), of my 3.0 litre td patrol! Now I've heard people say that approx 1/2 percent petrol into diesel can actually clean your injectors..?
Love some advice,cheers..

I put a couple of litres in a full tank every once in a while. I'm no expert though. Mines not a common rail diesel.

Can't see how only 1 litre would do anything mixed with 90l of diesel.

A mate put about 40L of unleaded in his 160L tank.... didn't seem to cause too many dramas. But you could probably run bunker oil through a GQ TD42 and it'd still go.

Done it myself - put 75L in my 96L tank - Mav TD42 - didn't drive anywhere had it towed home. Drained the tank and used it for cleaning parts.
Brother in-law did it in his GQ 2.8 diesel - 40L in his 76L tank and drove about 60K before it had enough - had to do all the injectors to fix it.

Should be ok just keep your tank topped up for a while. There are some logging companies around here that frequently put a cup of ulp into the tanks of their log trucks in the winter time. They do this to stop the diesel from freezing in the injector pumps.

a mate had a patrol come in the the workshop he was working in that had half a tank of petrol put in with the diesel they pumped it out and we had about 95 litres of bonfire fuel lit at a verry long distance
1 litre?
Enjoy the power increase.
Watch for melting pistons. :D

The BP site said that adding 5lts of kero to 100lts of diesel will make it equiv to alpine diesel.
So 1lt to 96 should be ok.
Just dont do it again ; P

They used to to add a 1lt of supa to a tank of diesel in the old trucks to get them up the hills so should be fine but don't know about common rail system's

Cheers 4 the info guys, its the model before the common rail plus i've made sure the tanks always full,so far so good...

Just read in my haynes service manual anything under 30% is fine above that its detrimental to your engine.

Bwahahaha, reminds me of an apprentice we had at the mines, did a service on a 10 ton forklift (bloody big) had a hole in Hydraulic Oil tank, so he had to drain the Hydraulic tank and fix hole then he topped up fuel with Hydraulic Oil (so it still ran.... just) and then filled the hydraulic tank with deisel. If someone didn't hear it running rough and stop him after he started the forklift ....... well we know what deisel does under pressure..... I think 10 ton on a hydraulic ram is plenty of pressure........... BOOOOMMMMMM.........

I know a few guys that put 5% ULP into each tank of Diesel (about 6litres per tank) to get that extra bit of grunt and they reckin it helps lube the injector pump. There is a big thread on this on one of the other forums with heaps doing it I will try and find it and link it up.

it wont lube it, it would dry it out if anything

mate dont worry about it, there wont be a drama at all, my brother put about 10lts into about 90 of diesel in a 04 prado and it done nothing to it, so dont even bother worrying

wont be a problem i had a diesel rodeo come into work that was running rough so I checked the filter, the ute somehow drove from Albury to Seymour on petrol??????
Years ago when i was an apprentice i did a service on my bosses mate's Navara. Anyway he picked it up all good to go, the next day he rings my boss up going off saying WTF has Bill done to my ute its running like shit! Anyway he manages to get it into work for us to look at...dopey bastard had filled it right up with petrol! We drained the system, flushed the lines and filled her up with diesel and got it running fine again. He sold it to his brother a few years later and the injector pump shit itself, i'm not sure whether that was related to running on petrol or not though.
Anyway, i can't see 1 litre of petrol to so much diesel being a real problem!

Since owning both a petrol and diesel car, I'm always double checking to make sure that I'm not filling my sedan with diesel, or my ute with premium unleaded :D
So far so good.
I know this is straying slightly of topic but I had a mate the other day fill his ski boat up with a jerry of diesel... couldn't work out why 200m from the beach it lost all power and started blowing black s##t everywhere!
I don't think 1L will hurt 90L though...

Have just finished fitting a new injector pump to an Isuzu turbo diesel NPR, looking at the fuel receipts it had 30 litres of petrol put into 100 liters of diesel about 3 weeks ago.......2 weeks ago it stopped with no sign of starting. Other than being a massive pain in the a$$ job it cost the owner $9,000 for the new pump and about 22hrs of labor charges (also ontop of that were costs of sending the old pump away for testing and diagnosis, with the result of the pump being unrepairable due to the damage that the petrol did to the unit (petrol has little to non-existant lubricating properties))........It was deffinatly a costly excercise for the owner.......lesson learned.....check twice

Recently whilst in a hurry & running out of time for an appointment drove into a servo with very, very low fuel in vehicle so thought I would put $20 in & fill up later when I had more time. Speaking to a fellow 4WD who was filling her vehicle, I know the black handle pump is diesel and other colours are unleaded. Wrong, there is another black handle which is Vortec or something similar so I ended up 12 litres into Pajero, husband was not amused when car coughed & spluttered & finally stopped. RACV man informed me vehicle will have to be towed so did so to nearest servo filled up with further 60+ litres of diesel, missed appointment & drove home. When the vehicle used half of this cocktail of fuel I kept filling up with diesel. I saw somewhere on this site a member on this forum puts a litre or two of petrol into his vehicle when he fills with diesel stating it cleans out the motor from carbon & glug. I S/T diesel engineer recently & he told me that it's Bulls**t. Put in good quality fuels and you shouldn't have any problems. S/T a friend who is a tanker driver for a very well know company & he told us that the drivers when fill up the tankers are suppose to put additives in the fuel as the tanks are filling he said most drivers cannot be bothered & therefore don't. He has told us numerous stories about petrol & diesel mix ups especially about tanker deliveries putting fuels in wrong servo tanks....these drivers are called "Shandy Man" for obvious reasons.

damn right Orejap, the additives you are talking about are the fuel colouring (my old man drove tankers his whole life....) so if they record bay numbers or fuel ammounts wrong it would be easy to mix it up during the servo drop.
with my bla bla story about the Isuzu, it was not ment to be a scare tatic, sure in most vehicles 10-15 litres mixed with a full tank of diesel would proberly have no ill effect, with the Isuzu fuel injection pumps they are a duel rail pump with very fine tolorances with all the bits and pieces bolted to it to keep it up to the Euro 010 standards for emmisionsn so one slip up in the system and it had a massive snowball effect.

i put 2 litres in 65 litre of diesel in my 1985 forerunner it was fine for 2 weeks and even thou i made sure i toped the tank up each week, the injector pump had more leaks than a sift.
