the end of the wire was under the body of the points.

my question is...what the heck is this wire for????????.. i am thinking it maybe an earth from the breaker plate to the body of the dizzy?

also what gap would i run the points at ?? & where to time the motor?

i am thinking around 14-16 thou & 8-10 deg.

cheers kel.

The wire looks like an earthing wire like U said.
U probably could set the timing at 8 degrees an see what happens and try setting the points at .45mm (should be on your feeler gauges).
I hope this info helps U.

The wire should earth to the body of the distributor. I would put a longer bolt in that holds the breaker plate to the body and then a nut on the inside to hold the wire there. I would go 17 to 19 thou with the points and time it at 6 to 8 Deg. Try taking one plug lead off at atime while it is running to find which cylinder is missing.
