hi all.
today i changed my injector pump in my 2.8 hilux no real dramas in doing it except the bill of getting it rebuilt!! but i went to start it up after putting it all back together, it started to kick then the dash lights went out, stopped kicking and now when i turn the key all there is is a clicking noise straight away from the glow plug relay. the headlights horn blinkers all work but nothing shows on the dash.the starter motor doesnt sound like its doing anything. has any one had this drama before?? in my manual the only thing it says about it is motor could be ceased i made sure everything went back in place where it shoud with the timing belt. any ideas before i pull it all apart to re check everything??
cheers for any help

Put a multimeter across the battery terminals and see how many volts come up. Only thing I can think of is a dud battery or maybe not a tight connection. Did you remove the battery terminals. Start with the small obvious things first I guess.
im having the same drama but all the lights are on on the dash, im blaming a batt terminal, just to lazy to pop the hood and adjust it, i just turn the key about 5 times and it works ahah ill sort it out soon

hope you got your timing marks right when it went back together, did you turn the motor over by hand first to make sure nothing was hitting?

ok there was a 40 amp fuse in the engine bay fuse box blown on the cover it says AM1 i replaced it and dash lights came on but it blew as soon as i tried to wind it over. checked all leads to starter and unplugged the tach/ fuel cut off from the injector pump and tried again, blew again can any one tell me what this fuse does it shows up on wiring diagrams a fair bit.thanks guys and ladies if there there

AM1 and AM2 fuses are often the main fuseable links, being a 40A fuse I'd say thats the case. Did you in any way remove, short etc the wires from the alternator?, sound like its either in the wiring to the starter or the alternator/regulator if it only blows when starting. If you have a couple of spare fuses you could try starting the vehicle with all accessorys turned on (lights, radio,AC,etc) this will remove any power spikes during start up, but will still leave you at a loss for the cause

Mine done exactly this would crank away but no go it was that 40 amp fuse kept blowing it's power ot the fuel cut solinoid on the inj pump just on top of pump single wire green i think. done some searching around it turned out the small bit of steel that sticks out on the handbrake shaft was shorting it out can get ya pics of the area if you want. a easy way to see if that wire has a short is run a wire from posiitive to that solinoid glow it and give it a crank if it runs its that cricut.

Only real thing I can suggest is to trace back over all the steps you took pulling it apart, and see if you can find a wire that hasn't been connected. Maybe the glow plug wire didn't get put back on??? or the bridging strap between all the glow plugs has a crack in the insulation and is shorting out on the head. That is if this was removed. I am only assuming it was to make turning the motor over by hand easier to align the timing marks.
