:( I hope I have this in the right place. i was checking my jerry cans (plastic ones) yesterday and found small clumps of what appears to be black algae in one of the containers. I have read that this algae forms in diesel fuel so the question is this. Under what conditions does it form and what is the best way to clean the jerry so that I dont contaminate my fuel supply when I`m out bush. My mechanical skills are poor so I dont want to have to try to clear fuel lines away from civilisation. Thanks for any information you may care to impart.

G'day mate,
The algae you're talking about usually grows is fuel that's been sitting around for a while, although I'm sure if most people opened up their diesel tanks they'd find at least some in the bottom...
It's not a big deal, simply flush your jerry's out with a little clean diesel (if you can afford it! lol) and if you're concerned about it getting into your fuel system, get a bottle of Fuel Doctor diesel additive... it really is the sh!t!!!

ol blu's spot on, the fuel would have to be stagnent for a fair ammount of time for alge to form BUT once alge has formed it needs a very through clean out, even the slightet trace could have another bloom after a short period. I use the nulon flashlube, dont know if it works but have never had an alge bloom

hey guys ....Its not algae algea is a plant its bacteria and forms due to the presents of water and air.... simple way to stop is keep them full off diesel(no air) or leave the caps off empty(no water or fuel)
