hey all,
i;ve been thinking about putting new susp under the cruiser,
but the problem is that there is about 1001 different makes and models that will suite the cruiser, all have lifts of around 2" and all say they won't sag.
but which ones are good, and what rate should i go for as it is a MWB and i have heared that big bore shocks are the go for a good ride??

Depends on what you need it for. For most everyday use OME or TJM 2" kits will be fine, remember you can always put in polyair's in the back for carrying heavy loads to prevent sag and then let the air out when you want a bit more articulation and smoother ride when empty. Best of both worlds. As long as the components that you buy are well matched you can't really go wrong with that size lift. Hope that is some help to you.

As big mav said depends what u want ut for..
But I have always had king springs in my 4by 3 sets now.
3" 5" and 7"
and have found them to be really good.. the only thing i have found with them is that if say u buy 2" springs all round it seems to sit a bit low in the rear...
After my first set i have always bought springs that r an inch higher in the rear (except for the 7's) and it has always been very good..
I also have the big bore adj shocks and they r very good also..

Most good 4wd shops can get them for u..
I got mine thru repco tho..
I am now running Tough Dog adjustable's after running Ranchos on my last rig and I highly recommend the Tough Dogs. I bought a full kit through Snake Racing, good price, great service. ;)
Springs.......well..........
Buy the big brands really, you can only hope for the best from them.
Shocks. I use Rancho's and have been happy with them untilljust before my pos went off the road and they seem too be flogged in the front but that may not be their problem. My friend had rancho's and ran them for six months before they blew and bought tough dog's and has had no problems. Lachie off this board has/had Rancho's and blew one up not long ago but I don't know what he is running now ;)

Do the big T Dogs have as much travel?
Do the big T Dogs have as much travel?
most brands of shocks are available in various lengths, as long as you get the correct length you will get full travel, all you have to do is jack your vehicle up, allowing the suspension to drop fully, then measure the gap between the upper and lower shock mounts

Hey cranky, sounds like you've done your own spring and shock change overs, and is it hard or just need to be hands on sort of person that can nut out probs easier.
do you just do your springs and shocks or do you also fit all new arms if required and castor or get someone qualifyed to?
I just want an idea of the difficulty in doing this (more money spent elseware if i can)
Cheers

I had Ironman fitted to my old FRP Top MWB cruiser. Was very happy with the handling after fitment. I probably did 50000ks before selling with no apparent sag. They are reasonably priced. Not sure who makes them though.

I fitted everthing myself...
Everything in the suspension is pretty easy to do urself.. A bit of spanner experiance would be a good idea and some decent jack stands..
If u can do it urself u will save a heap of money...
My suspension owes me $1500. woulda cost me a hole lot more if I paid someone else to do at and if the missus ol man didnt work at repco............
I have a 45mm lift fitted from pedders... wasnt my first choice went everywhere spent weeks looking into it and decided with them. I have gotten foam cells fitted to the rear and normal gas/oil in the front due to the limmited size you can fit to a prado without changing mounts etc. Their shocks are made in canada but valved to suit ausasie conditions and the springs are made be pedders. Whole lot supply and fit cost me bout $1500, i am wrapped excellent ride, no shock fade on bad corrugated roads and more wheel travel then standard. ;) The beauty of pedders is a specialist who does nothing else but suspension, and 90 stores aussie wide so if u have problems when out an about its easy to find someone to sort it out under warranty.

Generally on the cheaper end of the scale for suspension kits, ARB OME seems to do the job a little better than most.
Koni will cost a little more & from what I hear they are a very good product.
The others I have heard are a bit of a mixed bag, some report they are good, while others report problems.

Hi all,
I have been floating around on this topic for a while now as well. It would appear that Rancho's are ment to be used in pairs on the front of larger 4wds (LC or Pat). This is according to some guys on the Outerlimits forum. As I have heard plenty of bad stories of Rancho's leaking etc... this makes some sense to me. I am not proclaiming to be a shocker expert but just relaying some info I have picked up along the way.
I have picked up a set of King prings (HD) for a song and have pretty much decided on Tough Dogs adjustables.
I have looked in the 4wd Monthly mag at the 4wd1.biz ad. These guys have these shocks for $520 per pair, which seams reasonable from other prices I have got. As a sweetener for orders over $750 they throw in a protable air compressor. I need two sets (i.e. front and rear) so it is looking sweet for a free comp. They also deliver for free.
Seem good to me ;D ;D ;D
Cheers

The Rancho's & TDog's would appear to use the same valve body. Could it be possible that Tenneco makes both brands?
I have loved my Rancho's for 100,000k's, but the number of warranty claims for Rancho & TDog will have me examining Koni & Bilstein next time around...........if the travel is available.
