What year is the car?

Are you getting the check engine light up? If this is a late model 80 (from memory) it will be worth checking to see if you have any DTCs up...ie fault codes.

This was a fairly common problem with the earlier 80's, especially if their Alternator was getting a bit iffy, and driving thru mud and/or deep muddy water tends to make them iffy very quickly! I can't recall what the definitive fix is, apart from replacing the alternator, coil, plugs, & plug leads with new units and waiting for them to get to the iffy stage when you get to start all over again.

Good fella to ask about this is hj47/80series, he had a similar problem for some time, and I think he might have explored every potential solution, until finally finding the correct one!! He now drives a GU Nissan TD42ti Ute! :) But I'm sure he'll still help you!

Cheers!
