G'day all,

On my RHD FJ73 I have done a RUF, today I took out the shock absorber and the swaybar link to see how much flex I can get, I got a fair bit I think for a SUA setup. In the pics the front wheel is just off the ground while the opposing side is hard on the bumpstop. Question is, looking at the shackle I could probably get more flex but the tyre didnt want to do down anymore and I dont know why? The brake lines, driveshaft etc are on the compressed side so wont affect drop. All I could think of was that I have maxed out the steering links ? Any help appreciated.

Also I measure what size shocks I need with stock towers,

compressed ~410mm
Extended ~ 660mm

And rancho make a RS5000 that is

compressed 400mm
extended 686mm

beatuy!

A softer leaf spring will add a little down travel. If you had more travel to the bump stop then you could get more flex, but once the right side has hit the bump stop there is little room for extra droop. Ever thought of fitting extended shackles or doing a spring over setup? But the flex you are getting is nothing to sneeze at either.

Just from the looks of it, I am guessing your spring clamps havn't been touched? If so you can open them up so they are straight, don't cut them off as they are needed to keep the pack alligned. This will allow the pack to open up a bit and give you some more down travel

Depending on the situation doing this may result in axle wrap and could effect handling. If it does, then it's only a matter of bending them back to how they are supposed to be.

The springs are pretty soft at the moment, gets good up travel. Must be cause i'm hard up against the bump stop on the drivers side then that limiting drop on the other side. The shackles i've got are extended, SOA, nah cant be bothered with that, too much $$$, so far this setup has cost me virtually zip, just need to buy the ranchos.

The spring clamps are opened up, i'll chuck a pic up of them. Spoke to some other blokes and they seem it might be due to the short distance from the rear of the spring to the diff. Might just get the ranchos and leave it at that. Need to fix up the rear next to match!

cheers

SOA wont increase your flex, longer springs will, but thats heaps already. Toyota very strongly advise against doing a spring over on a crusier as they consider it dangous and unsound as the truck isnt designed to take the set up. sure a hilux is sprung over and it works quite well but its designed to be spring over.

thats heaps of flex already dude, only way to go better then that is with the longer wheel base of a Troopy.

Had a look at the article, and true SOA wont give my more flex, just more lift. And as for this troopy thing!! well.... i'll just leave the land yatchs to someelse:waycool:

cheers

P.S if anyone is looking for cheap long travel shocks 2-3'' 80 rears should work in the front of a 70 series, probably abit over damped though
