volts

hey guys and girls just a quick queston:
i'm wanting to install a volts guage to my 4runner this weekend and was wondering how to connect it!
do i just run a wire from the guage to the battery and a wire from the light to a 12v power supply (cigarette lighter????) and then just earth everything?
hope someone can help me!

Most aftermarket guages have the light being rather obviously seperate wires. Most will have one wire. Find a wire that has 12volts only when you turn your lights on and tap into it that will have the guage work when you turn the lights on. I tapped into the dimmer so it wasn't shining too brightly. The other wires just one to each terminal on the battery. Just a guide but ask around your mates I'm sure one of them has probably wired up guages before and could help.
