My new 1992 lux 2.8 shakes like crazy when its cold. The engine shakes the whole car and when it revs it even sounds different until its warm. It kicks over in less then a second. I know the injectors need to be cleaned. Don't know if its normal, just my old lux ran like a dream from start up. Strang thing is my new one has only 193,000kms while the old one had 330,000Km. Please help

First thing I would be looking at is the glow plugs.
If one is not working, that cyld will not be as efficient, or even firing at all when the diesel is injected into the cyld when cold.
As you say, once its warmed up, its ok.
That rules out comp issues, and possible injector issues.
Get someone else to start it, and check for a puff of white smoke out the exhaust, mates lux did that, one glowie was not working, and untill it warmed up, would behave as you describe for about 15 seconds after startup.

Mate, what engine is it? I have the old 2.8 N/A in my Hilux, and find if I glow it a few times it's fine, but if I only glow it once it shakes like all hell and only idles at 500rpm, that until warm, then it's around 650-700rpm. I got everything checked at the mechanic, they said it just an older engine starting up on a cold morning, they are the type of engine that needs to be warm to run efficently.
Hope this helps, Andrew

Do you mean turning the key back and forth until the glow lights goes off every time or just leaving it on for a bit longer, thanks for the help anyway guys.

My 2.8's the same, I always give the glow plugs about 3 goes before I start it if I haven't started it in a while or it's cold.
Yes Turboln106r, turn your ignition on and wait for the glow plug light to go out then turn off ignition and repeat a couple of times, you should notice the difference straight away.
I guess that means we all need new glow plugs, is this an easy job?

It's not that hard to change the plugs. I just changed mine on a 2.8. The only thing that you will need is a 10mm tube spanner as it makes it a lot easier to remove and insert the plugs.
First you remove the buzz bar, then the plugs. Thats about it.

yeh its easy as long as the plugs dont split and round off on you. then there a pain in the ass to get out. might want to blow some air around the plugs before u take them out so no dirt falls in.
