Hey guys!

This is not about my TD42 this time but this is a similar agricultural engine ;)

Today when I was driving my work truck 20year old ISUZU diesel (non turbo) it completely lost power on even road and I had to drop back into 2nd to keep it creeping along at about 20km/hr.

After about 20seconds it pulled again and ran ok for about 30-45seconds.
This "up and down" repeated constantly for about 100ks (till I got back) and it would die on idle and on pedal to the metal the revs would stutter from 500rpm to 2000rpm, very rough.

The truck wasn't driven for a few months so I guess there is build up of algie/water in the fuel tank that clogged the filter/s.

It is definitely a fuel problem I reckon.

What du you guys reckon?

I'm asking this because my boss is a tightarse and I have to fix the bloody thing next week

Should I drain the tank (nearly empty) and replace the fuel filters? I think it has one that catches the water (no primer pump) and after that one a regular fuel filter with primer pump.

Thanks for your help guys!

id say the filters are blocked

drain the tank, and change the filters.

Run an injector cleaner through it at about 1000% the recomended dose so as to shock treat the algea in the pump, injectors and lines.

I was pretty certain it would be that.

I knew it can only be fuel and as it was sitting there for so long it is fairly clear. I just thought I'd ask anyway :thumb:

Will give it a flush and change filters and see what happens. I'll post some pics maybe and if it helped.

Microbes maybe, algae no. Algae are plants and require sunlight for photosynthesis, and therefore cannot exist in the dark depths of a diesel fuel system ;)

Its a fungus, actually, cladosporium resinae, that grows in some fuels and oils, including diesel fuel.

AJ, also check the gauze filter in the fuel inlet banjo bolt on the feed pump if the engine has an inline injector pump.

yeah alot of the isuzus have a the water trap near the tank and alot of them have a filter in them change that and the other fuel filter at the engine, and as said by dakar61 the gause filter. then prime it up

Yep the water trap sits right near the tank.
And the fuel filter near the engine.

Not a bad little engine, over 300k km on it and it gets revved right up from cold.... poor service and gets driven like it's stolen  Still going allright :D

I will replace/clean all the filters and whack some injector cleaner in the fuel and drain the tanke before that.
